A few things here and there. Most notably the scene where Jackie Condon sees a man trimming his beard with scissors. He takes the scissors and does a hack job on William Gillespie while he's sleeping. Also, the ending punch line is totally missing. There was a sizable jump cut from when William Gillespie is bouncing Farina on his knee to the scene where they're putting him in the ambulance. He's supposed to get a telegram saying that he has to bring the children back.

Yeah, it seemed like a lot of the silents TCM aired were missing the endings. There'd be a quick shot lasting 2 seconds, and it would cut to "The End" title.

My favorite characters, in order, are Wheezer, Froggy, Spanky, Buckwheat, and Chubby. you covered the whole talking era from 1929-1944..wheezer's dad thought his son was a big star and did things to him to prevent him from growing and playing with the other kids

I liked all of 'em to an extent but Alfalfa wasmy favorite. I especially liked his singing before he started playing it for laughs.

If I had to pick just one, it would have to be Stymie!

My favorite by a long way is most definitely Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer. It was through liking him that I came to watch the other Our Gang shorts too. Alfie was a great actor and had a good singing voice too. My all time favorite shorts are Alfalfa's Double, Little Ranger, Glove Taps and Fishy Tales. My second favorite is Harry Spear, he was great in Olympic Games and Wiggle Your Ears was an absolute classic. I quite like a lot of the lesser known Rascals too such as Sherwood Bailey, Bonedust, Turkey Egg, Uh-Huh and Harold 'Deadpan' Switzer. In fact I like most of the Rascals, with the obvious exception of Janet Burston.

My favourite Our Gang kids are probably Jack Davis, Jackie Condon, Johnny Downs, Harry Spear, Jerry Tucker, Sherwood Bailey, Alfalfa and Porky. I also like quite a lot of the lesser known peripheral characters such as Uh-huh, Spike and Junior. I think as the series progressed I gradually found less and less characters who I liked. By the item it reached the MGM era Spanky had an over inflated ego to match his over inflated waistline, Alfalfa quickly gave up trying and essentially all of the Roach era kids, who had transitioned to MGM, were simply repeating their lines by rote and collecting their pay cheques. The new comers were a pretty lack lustre bunch but were further hampered by scripts that were in the main abysmally unfunny. Arguably my favourite Our Gang kid, Jack Davis, and Mickey Daniels had his moments too. Apparently Jack was a big inspiration for Mike Tyson.

My absolute favorites are Farina, Stymie, Spanky and Froggy. I always found Farina ansd Stymie to be ingeniuos in getting out of whatever situation they were in. Froggy was a childhood favorite of mine, despite seeing as a adult how bad the later MGM shorts were. Spanky was just a overall natural talent. I have also grown to like Breezy Brisbane in recent years.

Sorry that I'm bringing up an old thread, but since I just registered, I figured this seemed like the best thread to make my first post. As you can see, my choice is a little odd in that I consider Breezy/Brisbane my favorite - it's also fitting that I happen to be posting this on what would have been Kendall McComas' 102nd birthday!
Anyway, the reason for my choice is because Readin' and Writin' was actually the first Our Gang short I ever saw (hence my profile pic) and I have the distinct memory of laughing so hard at the end when he was crying and having to recite Sherwood's poem. Spanky is also my favorite short, and I thought he was pretty funny in that one too, even though he was being overshadowed by Spanky. It's only through looking through old posts on here that I learned he was actually 16!
I recently just got back into Our Gang, so I've been rewatching episodes on Youtube and that's also how I discovered this board last week.

Hi and Welcome. Don't worry about reanimating old threads, I'm forever doing it. I added new posts to two 14 year old threads only yesterday. Just post on any threads that take your fancy, regardless of their age, or start some new ones if you feel inclined. If you are going to post on a lot of old threads try not to do too many at once, so that the more regularly used threads aren't pushed off the first page but that's about it, enjoy yourself. There are some members here who are a mine of useful information about anything Our Gang related, I'm not one of them I only recently got into Our Gang, thanks to my admiration of Tommy Bupp. I don't know much about Kendall except that he was 15 or 16 when he joined Our Gang. He stayed for only a short time and had previous been in several of the Mickey McGuire shorts. In some of those he actually played the part of Stinky Davis! So what do you like about him?
