Wow, PERSHING is the correct middle name of the full name of a one-time character name.

I've only watched a handful of the early shorts and I haven't seen that one yet, but when I do I'll keep a watch out for
TROOPS HIRING THEMSELVES = ROOSEVELT PERSHING SMITH
That was a very obscure one!

That wasn't so obscure if Jackie Condon is one of your favorites. And Cullen Johnson qualifies as obscure. But maybe there will be some wait before another really obscure one comes along.
TINY HUGH BROKE METER = BRING HOME THE TURKEY, which I should have gotten faster.
Anyway,

Typically, not long after I posted the anagram of BRING HOME THE TURKEY a link was posted to the video of it on YouTube, which I thought would bring the title into the forefront of people's minds and make it easier to guess. Anyway,

I REDUCE BATON FOOD = BORED OF EDUCATIONTesting to see if this follows the punctuation rules: I GO EGO - I OBOEThe punctuation rules are simply: if a punctuation mark is present in the original name or title, it must be included in the anagram, however additional punctuation, which wasn't present in the original name or title, can also be used in the anagram if desired. I GO EGO - I OBOE = (I'm guessing simply because it's the only halfway sensible result that I can get) OOGIE - BOOGIE, Who I'm guessing must be a character name from one of the early silents, which I haven't yet seen? Let me know if I'm right or wrong, so that I can guess again or post the next anagram.

I just confirmed that Oogie-Boogie, the wild man from Borneo, was played by Buckwheat in the short Clown Princes. I have seen it but, well it's an MGM short and like most of them pretty forgettable, although at least not as cringeworthy as some. Next ELLERY WORM

I can't help but associate "The Kid from Borneo" and Oogie-Boogie, the Wildman from Borneo. A good thing about "Clown Princes" is that Leonard Landy get some limelight as an acrobat.
My view as I've stated before elsewhere on the board is that I draw a dividing line at the point when Porky left, in that I like most of the MGM films before his departure and very few afterward. I much prefer Porky to his replacement, Mickey G., and at that point Buckwheat's character took a nosedive, from being half of a great team to frequently a stereotype.

What do you mean anagram, don't you know Ellery is the Worm's real first name? But by an amazing coincidence,
ELLERY WORM = ELMER LOWRY

I don't know at which point in the MGM era Our Gang tipped irrevocably into becoming essentially moralizing, unfunny, boring rubbish but it happened. It was gradual, with occasional small highlights, deep troughs of maudlin and frankly embarrassing 'tragedy' and in the main just nothing, no humor, no entertainment, no originality and no connection whatsoever with the original ethos of Our Gang. To really attempt to pinpoint the moment at which Our Gang ceased to be the real Our Gang and became just a cringeworthy and unfunny parody of itself would probably necessitate watching all of the MGM shorts again and to be honest I'd much rather go to the dentist, once was once too many for some of them. I think for me that The Little Ranger was the highlight of the MGM shorts and it was rapidly downhill from that point, simply getting progressively worse as the shorts became less comedy and more public service orientated. Anyway the use of an additional punctuation mark as well as the required one from the original title was a strategy I'd considered myself, in short 'lose the real one among fakes' AREN'T HIS BULL? = RUSHIN' BALLETNext BORN A ROSE EGG

The name George Brasno probably looks a bit unfamiliar because you're probably more accustomed to seeing George's name alongside that of his wife, Olive, as they both appeared together as a couple both times that they showed up in Our Gang.

I know the Brasnos were in Arbor Day and Shrimps for a Day without looking it up; it's more that I don't pay much attention to the adult actors' real names unless they appeared in several films, which was more often the case in the silents.
