Circa 1934. The Gang celebrating a game of baseball. Back row: Sidney Kibrick, Jerry Tucker, John Collum, Cecilia Murray (the little girl in "Anniversary Trouble", and was indeed related to Bud Murray), unknown, Leonard Kibrick, and Stymie. Front row: Pete, Scotty Beckett, Buckwheat, and Spanky. Interesting that the Gang had an integrated baseball team long before the Brooklyn Dodgers did. I love this photo! I've seen most images of Scotty Beckett that are in common circulation, but this one is entirely new to me. Do you happen to know the story behind the baseball motif?

I've seen a few other baseball photos with this group. Froggy didn't use his horse sense in "Farm Hands". Strangely, this is one of the few 1940's shorts to not feature a moral (unless leaving a bunch of kids alone on a farm counts as one?) Attachments:

I wonder what the idea was behind the baseball photo shoot with this group of Gangsters. Maybe it was simply meant to associate them with America's Favorite Pastime, which couldn't hurt in the promotion of any product.

Jackie, Mary, Mickey (or should I call him "Freckles"?), Joe, Farina, Ernie, and a slew of kids that I can't identify taking time out for lessons. Not sure what they were in the middle of shooting. Attachments:

During shooting of "For Pete's Sake!", the Gang take time out to listen to a story. Any idea who the man with the magazine is? Standing: Edmund Corthell, Tommy Bond, Leonard Kibrick, director Gus Meins, Stymie Beard, Wally Albright, and Philbrook Lyons. Seated: Barbara Goodrich, Pete the Pup IV, Spanky McFarland, Carlena Beard, and Scotty Beckett. Attachments:

The original Our Gang in a photo taken during shooting for the second short, "Fire Fighters". The fact that only two of these kids are smiling makes it rather obvious why the other kids didn't stay around too long. L to R:, George "Freckles" Warde, Booker T. Bacon (Ernie), unknown, Roosevelt Pershing Smith (Jackie), and Elmo and Richard Billings. Contrary to popular belief, there's no Monty O'Grady or Winston and Weston Doty in this film. Attachments:

Here's another picture of Scotty Beckett from Mike Fright, one of my favorite of all the Our Gang shorts. Having Billy Lee and Scotty Beckett share the same screen is fun, though it would have been interesting to see them interact with each other a little bit. Attachments:
