"Saturday Morning" and "Seein' Things" are the two films on the list I'm most looking forward to, since they're the two that I've seen the least footage from. The rest of the films will be a quality upgrade I'm sure. I also like the fact that they're not bothering with "Derby Day" and "Dogs of War", or some of the other more common silents. It's also nice that they're concentrating on the Pathe films, since the MGM silents have already been released on DVD. The only downfall will be that TCM will probably plaster their logo in the corner of the screen at all times. A small price to pay for seeing (hopefully) restored, uncut Our Gang silents.

Well we at least know that "Buried Treasure" and "Monkey Business" do exist in complete form. It's gotta just be a placeholder or a mistake. BTW, in another forum, Paul from Laughsmith stated that these are NOT his versions of the films and that he had nothing to do with whatever will be aired on TCM.

I've got that footage already, but thanks! My old e-mail account has been canceled ( in case anyone else here can't get a hold of me). Message me here and I'll drop you my current address.

Especially since they are not all PD shorts. NOT a bad price for mediocre to fair quality with a lot of content. I had to pay a lot more years ago before everyone turned into pirates, list on ebay and all over the net, and claim it is PD I was saying to snipe to pay the lowest price the poster could. Yes the seller lists it alot, but why pay more then you have to? I got my 6 disc set for only 5.00 by sniping. Also, getting Our Gang off of Ebay isn't a new thing. I got my video tapes of Silents off of Ebay. "Private seller" HenryButch sold his tapes on Ebay. Grapevine ect also sold their tapes on Ebay. at the time they could have been considered 'pirates' since they didn't hold copywrite. They did provide a service that was needed. I for one was glad they did sell tapes. thanks for the tip on Ten Years old. I'll be calling the seller when they open. Now if I could find the cobbler and Jublio Jr. Well, Grapevine probably did their own transfers of the films. So they have that going for them. I'm pretty sure most of what HenryButch was selling was borrowed from other sources. I had all the volumes of tapes he made available and there were only a few unique items there. Here's "The Cobbler", cobbled together by yours truly using at least 5 different sources from a few generous people (you know who you are! . The film is not available on VHS or DVD from any vendor, or on Ebay. part 1 part 2

By the way, do you recall the same of the seller on ebay who puts out these better quality sets? Many thanks! It's michaelofcrystallake . You might use a good sniping program, such as vrane.com (which is free) I suggest that because he doesn't do buy it now. good luck! The seller lists a new set every day practically. No need for sniping. They're making a killing selling these discs. This particular set is missing "Ten Years Old", which is available from A-1 video. The rest of the shorts that are not included in the set are a bit more tricky to find (and in a few cases, IMPOSSIBLE).

I've never seen that set before, but I can tell you that most of the films are going to look pretty rough. Also, very few of them will be the complete films. Most will be shortened/edited versions of the films and in some cases will only be half the length of the original films. It seems that everyone that puts out these sets uses the same source materials for them. Instead of going out and finding the films for themselves, they simply grab them from other sources (Grapevine, Cabin Fever, etc) and put them on dvd (or even more probable, DVD-R) to try and make a buck. If you look at the following website, you can find out where many of these films were sourced from. www.theluckycorner.comI wish there was a set of all the Our Gang silents in excellent, complete condition, but it doesn't exist.

Hey all, For those that don't already own this or are on the fence about it, you have 24 hours to make your purchase! www.amazon.com/gp/goldboxYou're probably not gonna get it at a better price. While it does have a couple of edited shorts, and about 1/5 of the episodes are without the original opening credits, I say it's still worth owning. If you don't have them and would like them on DVD (and not laserdisc or VHS or dubs of such) then act quickly. The sale will be over very soon.

Hey all,
Just wanted to say that I recently purchased what appears to be the first reel of the "lost" Our Gang silent film "The Old Wallop" on 9.5mm film. The titles are all in French. It's amazing what you can find on Ebay these days!

At this point, it's probably harder to find the EDITED versions than the uncensored films. With a few small exceptions, the films are all unedited on the new dvd set from Genius.

Hey all,
I just saw a quick bit of promotional footage on HBO for Chris Rock's new film "Good Hair". They showed a quick clip of Farina in a chair with his "hair treatment" from "The Love Bug". Pretty cool! I wonder where they got the footage from.

Hey all, Here's the 3rd Our Gang film in the series, "Young Sherlocks" in two parts. I used 4 different sources to compile this edit of the film. It contains some footage not seen in the version I posted a couple years ago. I would venture to guess that the film is mostly complete. There are definitely some intertitles missing though. A new soundtrack was also added. Thanks to all the people that help me to get these done. You know who you are! Part 1: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao8WZ0ZS2s8Part 2: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0I_Ppb2Yb4

Thank you for that information, antifrodis. Where did you order your copy? Will I need to depend on language translator to order it? amazon.de If you're familiar with amazon.com, then you can pretty much wing it and order from amazon.de without too much problem. You may want to set up an account on amazon.com first, if you haven't already. Things will look very familiar on the German page.

Okay, I received my German Our Gang MGM silents dvd set in the mail today. Here are some random bits of info about it.
1. The opening titles for the films appear to be recreated. Of the original ones that I do have, some of these appear very similar. However "Barnum and Ringling" isn't even close. They did apply some digital film scratches and dirt to the opening titles to help them look more authentic, which is a nice touch.
2. The original soundtracks for "Noisy Noises", "Crazy House", Barnum and Ringling", "Cat, Dog and Co", and "Saturday's Lesson" are here. The beginning of the soundtrack for "Wiggle Your Ears" is partly missing. Otherwise, the films have soundtracks by the Beau Hunks, which is also nice.
3. The intertitles on every film but "Saturday's Lesson" are recreated, but worded correctly. They somewhat resemble the way the original titles looked.
4. All films have German subtitles on the intertitles that are NOT removable (besides Wiggle Your Ears, it doesn't have any subtitles). Also, where there's a sign or an item with text on the screen, there are also German subtitles that can't be removed either.
5. The picture quality on all the films is very good, with the exception of "Little Mother". It's pretty soft and blurry. There are also some odd flickering issues at the beginning of that film. Otherwise, there's a lot of clarity that is not there on the Blackhawk versions floating around.
Anyhow, overall I'm pleased with the set. It's not perfect, but the video quality is MUCH better than anything I had previously. It was a bit pricey, especially with the shipping costs exceeding the cost of the set. Furthermore, the discs are PAL format, which many dvd players in the US will NOT play. So buyer beware.
