Do you mean to tell me that the word is 'crack?' And to think all these years I thought there was something patently disgusting about those lyrics.

I'm just not gonna care... because that's how the song goes.

I voted "I don't care." Because, well... I don't.

Wait, is this the same Jimmy who had a nickel? Maybe he earned it cracking corn.

Wait, is this the same Jimmy who had a nickel? Maybe he earned it cracking corn. Actually, I think he paid his nickel for the privilege of cracking corn. By the way, I voted "I care." I care deeply about Jimmy's treatment of stalk vegetables.

I read that "jimmy crack corn" was slang for cheap whiskey. If so, the reason that the protagonist did not care was because he was drunk!

We are the folk song army. Everyone of us cares. We all hate poverty, war, and injustice, Unlike the rest of you squares. There are innocuous folk songs. Yeah, but we regard 'em with scorn. The folks who sing 'em have no social conscience. Why they don't even care if jimmy crack corn. -Tom Lehrer
