I've never seen it, but I saw a documentary on VH1 about it recently... if you're interested in checking it out.

I enjoy Soul Train, but only the 1983 to 1988 era. I didn't care for the later episodes, especially when my taste for new music started to decline by 1989. R&B music was pretty good in 2002, but that's the only exception. There are clips from the May 26, 1984 episode on YouTube if you'd like to check them out.
Interestingly enough, although most recording acts on Soul Train are R&B acts, there have been white acts who have performed. One noted example is David Bowie who performed "Fame" in a 1975 episode.

Of the themes throughout the series, I like the 1983-1984 theme "Soul Train's a Comin'" by O'Bryan the best.
