Can anybody tell me about film projectors? I don't know if I'll buy one yet or not, but I need some information on them, such as how they work, how much they normally cost, etc.

If you are still interested in projectors, try thrift stores first. That way you can test them yourself. If you buy one from fleabay, shipping should run around $40 alone. Make sure the seller would double box it. AND make sure the seller tests all functions and that it works perfect. EIKI's & B&H's still have parts available here and there ELMO's are very hard to replace parts. Clean them after every film you run! Clean your film too! :-) You can spend $50 for a 16mm to a couple of thousand. It really depends on what YOU want. Slot or channel loads are the best for beginners.
It is a VERY expensive hobby. I have a LOT of $$$ tied up into projectors, films, & negatives for intermissions. Digital projectors cost more up front, but DVD's are MUCH cheaper than films.
