Im a film maker in Toronto. Like most people my age, (50), most of what I know about pre war american pop culture I learned first from the Little Rascals/Our Gang films. I am presently making a documentary that includes references to the first and second world war and want to use some songs from the era. I am looking for a song that I am sure I heard first in a Little Rascals episode called "I love a man in a Uniform". As I recall, the lyrics include "Its not the man its what hes got on his back, that makes me wanna holler atta boy Jack! I love a man in a uniform, oh boy and how..." I have been looking at titles and wonder if it came from a film called "Doin Their Bit", but I am not sure and can find no song listings. What I am looking for is the episode, the song title, the author, a recording...anything really!
Can anyone offer any advice?

The song you reference is in "Doin' Their Bit".

Hi - thanks for confirming my suspicion.
I do not have a copy of "Doin' Their Bit". Assuming you do, would it be possible to send me information about the song, if there are any credits on the film - ie: songwriter, performer? Also, does the film exist on a compilation somewhere?

Doin' Their Bit is available as part of the Warner Brothers Archive Collection "The Our Gang Collection" which comprises all of the MGM produced Our Gang shorts. There is another song with the same name, but I doubt that "I Love A Man In A Uniform" by Gang Of 4 shares anything with the Our Gang version other than the title.
