Hey all,
I am happy to be able to announce that the "long lost" Our Gang silent film "The Old Wallop" is finally available for EVERYONE to enjoy. While the film has been known to exist since the 1970's, next to no one has seen it. Thanks to an Ebay purchase from our own forum member, Farina, and his generous and costly efforts to have a brand new digital transfer completed, it is now on Youtube. Special thanks goes to the amazing Michelle Schacht for spending countless hours painstakingly recreating the original opening titles and intertitles, ALL of which were missing from the print we have. They are all accurately worded to the original film and look amazing! Also, thanks to James and Bob for their help with this film over the years. As well as to Robin, for making me aware of the film in the first place. Check another one off your list and ENJOY!
...and THANKS AGAIN to forum member Farina for making this project possible!

I hope everyone enjoys it. This film deserves to be seen and appreciated by everyone. It's been way way to long for this to be hidden from public view. A special thanks go out to Antifrodis for all his hard work editing the film and coordinating with Michelle Schacht to get all the main title and intertitles recreated. Without the hard work of these 2 folks none of this would have ever been possible.

************************SPOILER ALERT!!!!************************* Wow! I just finished viewing THE OLD WALLOP (1927), and I find myself hoping those skyscraper shots weren't anywhere nearly as precarious as they appeared! I tend to think they couldn't have been VERY dangerous, although I find it difficult to imagine any studio getting away with this today, at least without benefit of CGI! This certainly sheds a different light on the later shooting of Laurel & Hardy's LIBERTY! (1929)! I'd love to see some other viewpoints regarding the above, along with some knowledgeable insights as to how the skyscraper shots were, or might have been setup and shot! CHEERS!

I'm sure that this was all done with camera tricks as I know that Hal Roach would never have put any of these kids in any real danger.

The more I think of it, the public availability of this long lost (And even longer unavailable!) gem should put to bed any stories of there having been any appreciable mortal danger in the later shooting of LIBERTY! (1929). I mean, if it was alright for Hal Roach's Rascals.... By the way Farina, in my opinion, your tremendous generosity and expense in making THE OLD WALLOP (1927) available is to be commended! Michelle Schacht's work on the recreated titles are also top notch! I don't recall ever having seen any done better than these! CHEERS!

I truly felt that this film should not be held hostage and only enjoyed by a few people. I did not embark on this journey to take any credit for it but merely thought that everyone should should enjoy it. I only hope that we can recover some of the other long lost films at some point and hopefully finally complete the collection of all Our Gang films. SaveSave

A tremendous amount of thanks to all involved for their work. What wonderful attitudes you have!
The source of a photo I saw on ebay a while back is now explained: that where Jackie is laughing at Harry standing in the water hole that was also used in "Olympic Games."
Also, I suggest "The Old Wallop" be added to the end of the list in "The Great Film Discussion."

Watched and enjoyed it. A bit scattershot, as most of the shorts were at the time, but great fun.
And yeah, I'd assume the skyscraper shots were done using primitive trick photography; rear-projection behind Farina, that sort of thing. I think that kind of thing was around back then, though I'm not sure.
A little surprised Harry was so meek this time out. And what was his fixation with Joe's pants?

Had THE OLD WALLOP (1927) always been available for viewing, I suspect that the myths regarding the dangers encountered during the filming of LIBERTY! (1929) would have been debunked by association. They were both shot very effectively, however! Perhaps someday, the opening scene with Wheezer punching his Dad will turn up someplace? CHEERS!
