When I was a kid, I attended a ventriloquist performance at a KOA campsite. This would have been circa 1973. The performer claimed that he was a former Our Gang cast member. I recall neither his name nor which character he said he played. Any idea who this might have been?

Gotta warn ya, there are a LOT of imposters out there who've claimed to be former Rascals and weren't. So it might be one of those.

It also could have been someone that appeared in a similar series. Our Gang had several rivals/ripoffs during the 1920s, none of which remained popular beyond their initial run in theaters. It would have been easy for a kid who showed up in one of these other series to grow up thinking they were in Our Gang. And it has happened more than once.
Sorry, though. I have no clue who this kid could have been.

This may be a false memory, but I vaguely recall him saying he had played the role of Porky. Did Eugene Lee ever work as a ventriloquist?

Jackie Cooper famously played a ventriloquist in a 1964 episode of The Twilight Zone called "Caesar And Me."

I also saw a ventriloquist at an RV campground in San Antonio in the 70's that claimed to be one of the Little Rascals. His show was quite entertaining and he pulled my father from the audience to use as a human dummy. It was very funny. The reason I found this tread on this forum is I was searching tonight to try to determine which Little Rascal he was. He said he was the one that pouted all the time with his hands on both sides of his face. I don't remember which name he said though. I'm not sure if the campground was a KOA or not. Perhaps we were both at the same performance!

Almost surely an Our Gang imposter (or, charitably, someone who thought he was in Our Gang but was actually in another series).
The adult lives of all but the most obscure, one- or two-episode Our Gangsters have been pretty thoroughly documented by now. None of their résumés, to my knowledge, contains anything about them working as a ventriloquist.
