Junior Coghlan AKA Frank Coghlan Jnr was a pretty big star during the late silent movie era and his career continued well into the talkies. He was the headline star in a number of movies as a preteen and young teenager but as he got older his movie roles became less prominent although he later made a name for himself in the movie series Captain Marvel. Junior was a good actor, pleasant looking and perhaps even more importantly he was very charismatic and just plain likeable. You can watch the full movie of one of Junior's later silent films on YouTube... I'll bet you never knew Harrison Ford was that old In 1932 Junior was one of the major players in 'Hell's House' a talkie that featured Bette Davis in her screen debut. After she later became famous the titles were altered to give her name more prominence alongside Pat O'Brien. The real starring role in the movie was actually played by Junior Durkin. A young actor who appeared in eight movies before he who died tragically in car crash when he was only 19. The crash also killed the father of Jackie Coogan and Jackie himself was injured. You can watch the full movie on YouTube...

Do you know if he's ever recorded an album of his music for release? Beamer hasn't released any official album yet, but he has five songs that he did a rough recording of in the studio on his audio page: Five songs from BeamerHis career is still in its very early stages. I'm confident that he'll be in the studio and releasing a lot of music in the future. I just hope he stays true to the type of music that he loves and he has a long term career in music, not just a flash in the pan child performer. I think he could grow into a successful adult performer. Here is a video that gives you some background info... P.S. - Beamer was born in November of 2002, so he'll turn 11 in a few months.

Also, thank you very much for the information on Junior Coghlan. I'll have to check out the silent movie videos this weekend when I have more time. I also found the silent short "Players At Play" that the baseball footage came from on YouTube. I want to watch that whole thing too.

I also found the silent short "Players At Play" that the baseball footage came from on YouTube. I want to watch that whole thing too. Yeah I edited the clip of Junior playing baseball out of the 'Players at Play 1929' Pathe newsreel footage 'cos most of the other actors were adults, with the exception of a scene featuring Jackie Coogan and younger brother Robert in their swimming pool. I'll edit that clip out later and post that one here too. Junior was born in 1916 and he was a pretty charming actor. There are a few of his child actor movies available on DVD, such as the 1927 silent movie 'The Yankee Clipper' featuring William Boyd who later went on to become famous as Hopalong Cassidy.

Here is the short section featuring Jackie Coogan trying to teach his younger brother Robert how to dive. There is second 7 second long clip of Jackie, winking under water, later in the 'Players at Play 1929' video so I made that into a GIF.

A little change of pace, sports fans. Here is proof positive that baseball managers like Earl Weaver and umpires swear the !#!% out of each other during on field arguments. Of course we never hear what they're saying watching on TV at home or sitting in the ballpark...until now...

One of the earliest recordings by Welsh psychedelic folk indie band Gorky's Zygotic Mynci (Gorky's Psychotic Monkey). This video for their own original song Oren, Mefus a Chadno (Orange, Strawberry and Fox) was made when they were all still at school.

Ghost Along The Mississippi (by Down) cover by the students of Aaron Okeefe. The music is pretty good but I'm really impressed by the vocals of Drew Lowry.

The latest from Beamer...just posted today 8/17 Smooth Goodness, that was an ambitious song of which to attempt a recreation! Performing Smooth invites comparison, of course, to the highly distinctive tones and vocal mannerisms of Rob Thomas; perhaps even more significantly, however, keeping up with the speed and dexterity of Carlos Santana's instrumental riffs demands the skill of a world-class guitarist! Beamer has courage to attempt a song like Smooth.

I love, love, love the Jackie Coogan segment, especially the underwater wink! :-) If there ever was a greater charmer of the silver screen, I don't believe I've ever seen him or her. Even in just the few seconds this clip lasts, he commands the screen like a true standard-bearer of Hollywood nobility. Jackie Coogan has long been one of my favorite actors; in fact, on some forums I'm known as JackieCooganFan.

I remember watching Jackie Coogan's grandson Keith Coogan act on The Waltons back in 1979/1980. He played the character "Jeffrey" and went under the name Keith Mitchell. I found this video that shows him and Jackie Coogan towards the end...
