I didn't realize he was that old. I think that my favorite Sherwood Schwartz story has to be the one about how he wrote the theme song for Gilligan's Island as a hurry-up job to help in pitching the show to a prospective buyer. He may not have taken a lot of time to write the song, but he sure did come up with a classic T.V. tune that, in terms of popular appeal, matches up well against any other. Sherwood Schwartz will long be remembered for his major contributions to American situation comedy television.

I had recently caught up with some of Schwartz old shows that I hadn't seen in years. I read the book "Brady, Brady, Brady" that he co-wrote with his son, and saw a documentary on The Brady Bunch just a few days ago, and was pleasantly surprised at how long he's lived. Hearing of his passing so quickly is very saddening. Schwartz was definately a genius in his own right, and will truly be missed. But maybe now he and Robert Reed can finally settle their differences and become friends.

Speaking of the Gilligan's Island theme song, try singing it sometime to the tune of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".

Speaking of the Gilligan's Island theme song, try singing it sometime to the tune of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Another trick is to sing the words to the tune of "Amazing Grace," or vice versa for that matter. I saw something on TV once (or perhaps read it) in which an interviewer mentioned this to Joan Baez. She responded in good humor, but pointed out that if the interviewer had mentioned it back in the '60s, she probably would have strangled him.

Am I the only one who remembers "It's About Time" with Joe E. Ross and Imogene Cocoa?
