I've noticed that George Warde (a.k.a. "Sonny Boy" Warde, a.k.a. Sonny Loy Warde, a.k.a. Sing Joy) has at least three IMDB pages. There's one for Sonny Loy Warde, and one for Sing Joy. Obviously, the people behind these pages got their information from the Maltin/Bann book. But here's one that I've never seen before: www.imdb.com/name/nm0523441/I wonder how accurate (if at all) the info on this particular page is.

That's probably an accurate credit. He changed his name a few times, and Sonny Loy was one of the variations.

What about the 1912 birthdate?

I have no way of corroborating the birthdate, but it looks conceivable. It would mean that he was slightly older than Ernie Morrison. I also noticed that the cast listing for "Mr. Wu" is the *credited* cast, which makes it pretty clear that he was in that film. The one film listed under Sonny Boy Warde would have been while he was still using the earlier name. I believe the listing for George Warde would actually be George 'Freckles' Warde, and not George 'Sonny Boy' Warde, since it simply credits him as 'a waif,' rather than indicating his ethnicity.

Hoping the above discussion is accurate the OurGang Wiki is updated with the birth and death information. It's very confusing with two George Wardes as contemporaries.

Someone needs to create a listing for Powder Puff.

Are there two different George Wardes? Or are all the Wardes and Sonnys listed here the same person?

Yeah there's two: George Warde aka "Freckles" George Warde aka "Sonny Boy" (variously listed in casting directories as Sonny Boy Warde, Sonny Loy, and a Hispanic name that escapes my memory; Maltin & Bann list him as Sonny Loy Warde, and by his character name of Sing Joy)

Also something I've been curious about, I've seen these listings on ebay several times for figurines that are usually marked "Sonny Boy Our Gang". It's highly doubtful, but could this somehow be related to "Sonny Boy" Warde?

Someone needs to create a listing for Powder Puff. Since the actor who played Powder-Puff is unknown, would IMDb accept such a page? If anyone knows more than what is listed at ourgang.wikia.com/wiki/Powder-Puff , feel free to add to it.

It's highly doubtful, but could this somehow be related to "Sonny Boy" Warde? I've been seeing those figurines on eBay for at least 10 years now. It appears to be a small black child, which probably has some connection with the Al Jolson hit "Sonny Boy." I don't think there's any direct connection to Our Gang, but the sellers seem to want us to think that way.

When it comes to Sonny Boy Warde, I've had some questions for a while about whether or not his real ethnicity was actually represented in the Our Gang films. Do we know for sure if Sonny Boy Warde was an actor of Asian descent, or could the "Sing Joy" character have been something of a ruse?

Do we know for sure if Sonny Boy Warde was an actor of Asian descent, or could the "Sing Joy" character have been something of a ruse? I guess we don't have any solid evidence, but I think he looks like he's got one Asian parent and one caucasian parent (the latter probably being his father, if his last name is any indication). In the one casting directory I've got in which he's presented as Hispanic, he could reasonably pass himself off as Hispanic, but still looks distinctly Asian.

That sounds about right to me. If Sonny Boy Warde had one white parent, then that could account for the elements of his physical appearance that had led me to wonder if he might have actually been white. Do you know if he was ever presented in any official film project as being of an ethnicity other than Asian or Hispanic?

Do you know if he was ever presented in any official film project as being of an ethnicity other than Asian or Hispanic? Nope, that's about the extent of what I know about him. I guess it's possible that his mother was Hispanic, and that he just looked reasonably Asian, but it's probably the other way around.
