Hey guys,
Making my own pictures for this site is important to me, and I can no longer use my Dazzle Digital Video Maker as my computer went to Windows 2000 after having it cleared from a virus I had in it (the software doesn't support that operating system).
Does anyone know of a good video capture device that I could buy? I'm keeping an eye out for eBay and half.com. Being able to make pictures from videos is what's most important, but I would also like to make video and audio files with them. If anyone can reply here to recommend anything, it'd be appreciated.
As long as whatever you suggest works for Windows 2000, there'd be no problems. How many RAMS needed wouldn't be an issue; of course, I have a sound card, etc. etc.
Thanks!
Mark

Mark, have you ever used Nero? It is a very good program. It has a video capture feature (I have not used mine for that yet) I have a disk somewhere I can find if you wish to give it a try. I will search for it, and the details if you like.

Hi OPT,
I have Nero for burning CDs with, but not for video capturing. But shouldn't Nero for video capturing come with some small gadget for connecting the VCR to and then that gadget connects to the computer in order to make pictures from videos?

the version of nero I have is for Cd's & DVD's. So you can just capture the image while viewing the DVD on your PC.

Actually, all I have is a CD player/burner on my computer, which won't play DVDs. But I think I might have found something on eBay that will best suit my needs. Check it out: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5173306312&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:US:1I asked the seller if I can make still pictures and audio-only files with this item. So I'm waiting for the response before I get it. I'm pretty sure I can.

I'm pretty sure that is for making DVD's but even tho you don't have a DVD burner, it should do JUST what your looking for. IMHO it looks to be better than just upgrading your PC with a DVD player. You will be able to grab video from many formats now. Price shop at www.tigerdirect.com/ to be sure it is a good deal. IN fact, I could use one too. I have a VHS/DVD recorder, but the unit you found can help turn a home copy into a quality DVD via your PC.

It's specially designed for making DVDs, but as it says in the description, it can used to make VCDs (regular CD-Rs) as well as DVDs. But I'm not even going to do that because, like you, I have a set-top DVD recorder, the fantastic Pioneer I got from WalMart last year.
Still waiting for the seller to get back to me about making still-pictures and audio-only files with it...

Disappointing. I can't figure out how to get rid of that green that you see in the bottom of the screen. I don't think it's any good.

I figured out the best way to do video capture is with a DV camcorder that has DV pass through. This will convert analog video to DV. You just need to get a firewire card in your computer ($20) and a DV camcorder which are now in the $200 range, and a used one should work perfectly for this.
I transferred some of my Cabin Fever VHS tapes to DVD and the generation loss is impossible to see. I have a TRV-33 camcorder. Almost all Sony's do Pass through including the Digital8 models.
Hope that helps, CB
