Does anyone know why this set has been so long in coming? It seems like forever. I really look forward to it. The silent copies I have were given to me years ago before there were DVD transfer processes, so they are grainy from the transfer. I'm holding out hopes that this set is actually going to come out at some point.

Laughsmith cut ties with their distributor. They are waiting for an arbitration hearing in early December. They will release the plans for the set, after the hearing.

Another interesting question is, does anyone know what films will be on this set? It is to have a total of 32 films.

Another interesting question is, does anyone know what films will be on this set? It is to have a total of 32 films. Here is a list that was posted on the site a few years ago. Probably, not all of these films will be on the set, but a majority of them will. Our Gang Fire Fighters Young Sherlocks Saturday Morning The Cobbler The Champeen! A Pleasant Journey Fast Company July Days No Noise Big Business The Buccaneers Seein' Things High Society The Sun Down Limited Every Man For Himself Dog Days Ask Grandma Official Officers Boys Will Be Joys Your Own Back Yard One Wild Ride Good Cheer Buried Treasure Monkey Business Thundering Fleas The Fourth Alarm! War Feathers Olympic Games The Smile Wins Old Gray Hoss Fast Freight Buster's Picnic (Buster Brown) Buster And The Tutor (Buster Brown) Funny Face (Big Boy) The Klynick (Hey Fellas) Mickey's Eleven (Mickey McGuire) No Fare (Big Boy) Laughsmith always presents people with an "A" piece of work. So far, they have mentioned that the quality for the films will be very excellent, and some might be shown on TCM. Recent post from Laughsmith at http://www.silentcomedies.com: Greetings all, Laughsmith has not released the Our Gang set because of a pending arbitration matter which is scheduled for early December. We will announce our plans at the conclusion of that hearing. -- PG

Among the presumed bonus features will be a rare piece of film called "Our Gang at Home" a.k.a. "More Mischief".

I have purposely held off on seeing other versions of these early silent films that have been mutilated, edited down and released with different titles. I want the full experience of seeing the original (well, as original as possible) films of the Our Gang silents for the very first time. Anyone else share the sentiment?

Yes I too want the silents totally complete and, of course in great picture quality!
it sure would be grand if some company could remaster the silents, and make sure they have the complete versions, no cut and choped up versions and release the whole silent collection on DVD and WOW would this be the best ever!! I have quite a few of the silents and some are complete and some not and, if only the silents could all be remastered and look-so good as the remastered versions of DERBY DAY and SUNDOWN LIMITED and the few others thats on the laserdisc sets of which I have these sets.
its awful how time keeps going on and no one seems to want to work on these silents to make them complete and the best they have ever looked and put to DVD!
Indeed there are TONS of us fans of the silent Our Gang who are just waiting and hoping that these films will come to DVD in super beautiful picture quality and, again, totally remastered and totally uncut! Come on, bring the complete collection of the silents to DVD NOW!!!!!!!!!!
There needs to be a voting type thing and the more votes for the complete collection of Our Gang silents would mean that these all would get the wonderful treatment they so much deserve!!

Hopefully Laughsmith will release their set soon. I personally can't wait to see what they have to offer. I've been working with a few friends over the past year doing homemade restorations of the Our Gang silents. We've managed to piece together complete, or nearly complete, versions of a few of the films, as well as adding scenes to others that have been missing from the typically available versions. The films certainly aren't remastered, and are, in many cases, still incomplete. However, they are better than whatever else is currently available to the public. If you're going to wait for 100% complete, perfect copies of these films to show up, you may be waiting forever. You'd also be missing out on some of the best Our Gang films ever made! Here's a link to my Youtube page. www.youtube.com/user/AntifrodisIf you want to see a complete Our Gang silent, the films "The Buccaneers" and "It's a Bear" are most likely complete and generally of good quality.

First, let me say that I have checked out Antifrodis's videos in the past, and I greatly appreciate his efforts to help expose more "Our Gang" silents to new and old fans. I have a number of silents that I bought from various dealers over the years, and combined with what Antifrodis has put up on YouTube, I think there is about only 15 "Our Gang" shorts I have never seen. Sadly, I know a few of the silents are still considered lost, but I hope to one day own all the available silents.
About Laughsmith Entertainment: I have written them a couple of times over the past year or two about the collection of silent "Our Gang" films, and I have never received any response at all. Does anyone have any new updates regarding the set? I hope it's not cancelled.

Hi, a little bit more info here: www.silentcomedians.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1728Hopefully one day it'll come to fruition along with a proposed Mabel Normand set similar to the one they did for Fatty. The Laughsmith gang understands proper non glacial running speeds on their silent's so these will be worth the wait as they'll most likely be definitive.

The Laughsmith gang understands proper non glacial running speeds on their silent's so these will be worth the wait as they'll most likely be definitive. Sad news for those who don't already know. I just read that Laughsmith lost all the rights to the material to their ex-distributor. From Laughsmith: "...Unfortunately, following a protracted legal battle with our distributor, Laughsmith Entertainment is no longer affiliated in any fashion with the Our Gang production which it initiated in 2005. The unfinished materials are now the property of Mackinac Media, Inc. What that company intends to do with the materials, if anything at all, is unknown to (and entirely unsupported by) us at this time.
We understand that another production company has already started work on a definitive Our Gang silents collection, a multiple DVD set which includes all known surviving Pathe era silents, we will post details of this project as they are made available to us.
Thank you for your patience, time and interest.
Sincerely,
Laughsmith Entertainment"
The petty and vindictive folks at Mackinac will never let these see light of day again. Especially not at correct running speeds.
