For those of you who've seen a lot of the Laurel & Hardy talkies from the 30s,have you ever noticed how in these films ,you often hear the exact same background music commonly heard in the Our Gang films of the same period? For example, during a scene in the Laurel & Hardy feature"Swiss Miss",where the duo move a piano across a wooden footbridge and are approached by a gorilla,we hear background music that sets the mood for the scene. The instramental tune is apparently called"Strange And Mysterious".This very same tune was heard during a scene in the Our Gang short"Night'N'Gales",where Mr.Hood falls asleep under a bear skin rug on the sofa, and dreams of minatiaure versions of Spanky,Alfalfa,Buckwheat and Porky dressed in devil suits, poking at him with pitch forks and laughing.Even during a scene in the very first Laurel & Hardy feature film"Pardon Us",the trademark Our Gang tune can be heard. The obvious reason for this connection,is that Our Gang and Laurel & Hardy both originated at Hal Roach Studios.

Oh yeah, that's pretty well known. Laurel and Hardy and Little Rascals were like "next door neighbors" because they both worked at the Roach Studios and were the two most popular series. They often visited each other on the sets, ate together, etc., so they probably thought why not include the same familiar music in the Laurel and Hardy films?
Once in a while, you can hear the background music in a few other series like Thelma Tood/Zazu Pitts and The Boyfriends.

One other series that comes to my mind is Charley Chase. As well as having his own series,he guest starred as Oliver's brother-in-law in the Laurel & Hardy feature"Sons Of The Desert".Not only that, but some of the rascals appeared in some of the Charley Chase shorts.Alfalfa made an appearance in"Southern Exposure".Laurel & Hardy even had a brief cameo appearance in"On The Wrong Trek".

Alfalfa also appeared in the Charley Chase short, Life Hesitates at 40.
I just realized I spelled "Todd" wrong in my last post. Oops.

Fraidy Cat is a funny one :-)
Find music CD's by "The Beau Hunks" they did wonderful remake Leroy Shield music. Which of course, is music used in MANY L&H & Our Gang movies/shorts.

Yes, I've noticed it. I just thought it was because of the fact that they were Hal Roach productions, and that they just used some of the same background music.

And the song "Honolulu Baby" appears in both series.
