Greetings from a LR fan!
In Free Wheeling, when Stymie is talking to the maid, he is referring to Dickie's mother and says "she gives me the...bad...eye!" in a line that sounds overdubbed.
Was this line originally "evil eye"? If so, was it in the original and only changed b/c of racial overtones?
Thx! BWS

Its possible, because in the 1950's when the shorts started to appear on TV, racist gags were overdubbed or the whole short was left out completeley.

I felt this film was a breakthrough in racist issues. I mean, the whole point is that we are not supposed to be overly fond of Dickies mom, and that she called Stymie "that coloured boy" was, I think, always supposed to make us mad. As opposed to Creighton Hale's awful "The little pickanniny"? comment in "Big Ears".
