I noticed the Weidler Brothers were of German descent. Perhaps one of them handled some of the main players' dialogue in the German version of "A Tough Winter."

It has been brought to my attention that Leon Janney was apparently of Latin American descent. This only furthers my suspicion that he was hired to carry the Spanish-language version of "Bear Shooters." With that in mind, we can now say that Our Gang had a Latino member at one point. (Though there are theories that Sonny 'Sing Joy' Loy may have had a Latin background).

Although IMDB isn't exactly known as a fount of accuracy, that Sonny's birth name is listed there as Louis Cordova does appear to bear out that theory of him having a Latin background. Playing a different race certainly wasn't uncommon in the 1920s, and Sonny Loy's "Asian" face could conceivably have been the product of makeup! Regarding the theory of Leon Janney also having a Latin background, that does seem plausible to me. Looking closely at some of his photos, I think he does have at least a slightly Latin look about him. It also would explain his otherwise inexplicable selection to appear only in BEAR SHOOTERS (1930). His birth surname Ramon also strikes me as appearing Spanish, and Leon did reportedly pass away in Mexico! CHEERS!

Like Spanky, I think Leon's appearance changed quite a lot in adulthood, to the point that I never associated the cosmic killjoy Dr. Nemur in CHARLY (1968) with the whiny, overaged "I'm goin' campin" adolescent in BEAR SHOOTERS (1930). Thanks for sharing these links! CHEERS!
