Thanks for posting this. That was so much better than the typical MGM short. There is one burning question: why did Darla think she worked with Farina? Especially after that memorable performance of Buckwheat lip-synching to Rochester's voice in Calling All Kids.

Just looking back on this appearance. Got to say, I've quite enjoyed discovering Benny's program over the last year or so. It's that gentle sort of comedy you just won't find today (though I'll admit to not caring much for the jokes about Don Wilson's weight). A favorite line from this particular episode - Jack: (talking to the dog) Hey, Spot, would you like to be in the dog show? Rochester: If he answers, I'm leaving! I just realized "Alf's" last name is supposed to be "Falfa!" On a related note, here are a couple of Chicken of the Sea ads with (if I'm not mistaken) Darla singing. Kind of cool to see that they were still running these after she passed on. Though if I'm not mistaken, her version would soon be replaced. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCzPne3F6Eowww.youtube.com/watch?v=CzbpppPTqDY

I remember the Chicken of the Sea commercials on ABC daytime back in 1980, most likely during The Edge of Night. She still retained that accent, it seems. However, I was surprised to learn many years ago that the mermaid was voiced by an adult Darla Hood. Darla seemed to be in pretty good health, only for her life to end suddenly.
Nobody seemed to know who voiced the mermaid until Internet sites revealed it, it seems. But still, Darla had a lovely voice as an adult. I wonder if she would have had a chance to voice the animated Darla Hood if she had lived through 1982?
As for The Jack Benny Program, is this a rare occurrence of the real life Darla wearing a bow in her hair? Did she ever wear a bow in her hair when she starred in Our Gang? Did the bow in her hair in this program inspire the 1980s animated version?
