Well the bad news first, It is a set of DVD-R, not Factory pressed DVD's. The quality is pretty good. The Cabin Fever DVD's are a little better quality than these. What ever you do, do not buy this set from anyone it is a bootleg. Even though it has all 88 episodes, don't give money for this.

Well, since Hallmark didn't bother to release the 2nd series on DVD, the only way to get them on DVD is to either record them yourself from VHS or buy a bootleg. Maybe they should take note of how many bootlegs are selling and release it themselves- complete and remastered.

bummer.......maybe send them to Turner......let them deal with the company making the crap boots, and give them the idea to put out a quality item?

Unfortunately, that is probably not what would happen. They would probably have them shut down, but still not release them. Then the people who want them are screwed. I am all for the discs being available, but they should be clearly marked as DVD-R's in all advertisement. No one should have to be surprised at what they get.

Someone finally left a rating on Amazon.com, but it was only for the first half of the set (volumes 1-12) but the picture on Amazon is the bootleg version. Here's what they said:

I agree if you don't buy the bootleg, then how do you get them? Search around, some people will trade for them, rather than buy them.

You can still get the Cabin Fever VHS tapes of the second series for a decent price. If you have the ability to dub them to DVD, you are ok. The quality isn't any better, but you don't have to mess with tapes any more. Buying the bootlegs is basically paying to eliminate the hassle of dubbing them yourself. But you are gambling on the quality.

That's exactly what i did for volumes 13-21 and the volumes before that except the ones that were released on the hallmark dvd's. I did purchase some of the cabin fever vol1-12 on dvd but the covers were blurry and they would not play on my portable dvd player. So i just transferred them to dvd instead. Yeah i've seen the versions of what you purchased Bax53 and i'm glad i didn't buy those. When it comes to rascal dvd's being release i tend to really buy them at the stores and not online. But that's just a personal opinion so

I bought the "Mega Pack" 11 DVD set last week from an Amazon Seller and have been quite pleased with the 5 episodes from different disks that I have already watched. The quality seemed fine. It is certainly better than the quality of the TV image that I watched as a kid! Perhaps those of you who are really, really sticklers on the quality of the image for collection purposes might have a more critical eye than I do. But for me, just to be able to see Spanky "bug huntin'" is enough.
BTW, since these are in the public domain, I question the use of the word "bootleg" which to me implies a copyright issue.
My thanks to OPT who wisely suggested that I wait until I got the disks before buying a single episode that was not listed on the 11 DVD set...indeed it was there.

Most of these are not public domain.

The only episodes in the public domain from the Hal Roach talking era are Bear Shooters, School's Out, and Our Gang Follies of 1938, jay.
By the way, are the first 12 volumes in this "Mega Pack" the Cabin Fever DVD's, copied using a computer DVD burner? If so, that could explain why they don't look noticeably bad.

No the first 12 volumes are not copies of the Cabin Fever set exactly, though they could have been the source. There is digital artifacts in volumes 1-12. Disc 7-11 wich is volume 13-21 the quality is very good, no artifacts that I can see. Source must have been different. I am pleased with the set, just makes me mad that the seller didn't tell me it was DVD-R. Now if we could just get the MGM talkies that came after these in a DVD set, that would be great.

I guess we can only "guess" where the source came from. All I know is, that one seller on eBay told me that the Audio Tape sets were cheaper copies of Cabin Fever.
