Incidentally, that cast: I finally figured it out. They've got Buckwheat, but also Stymie to counter charges of racism. They've got Darla, but also Mary Ann to counter charges of sexism. And I'm not sure why they went with a skinny Spanky but it's not important. I'll probably check it out if it's an option but I won't lose any sleep if it's not. I thought Darla was the one on the far left, but then I wondered who the girl in pigtails was. I kept thinking about Muggsy without glasses.

Too much cuteness (not the good kind) -
Judging by the over-usage of the 'hi-sign' and 'o-tay!', it would appear that Alex Zamm and co. were at least partially inspired by the 90's movie.
I think the kid getting punched by the boxing glove is supposed to be Waldo. I guess the producers couldn't afford a pair of glasses for him.
"It's the all new movie you'll want to watch again and again!". Funniest line in the entire trailer.

Remakes of this series are always so exaggerated. It makes it hard to enjoy.

To be honest, it was pretty much what I was expecting: A dumbed-down attempt to create a direct-to-video franchise out of an old property they had lying around, sort of like the Tom And Jerry or Air-Buddies DVD series.
Oh, well. Maybe the kids will like it.

Universal posted some clips. Spanky is way too chipper. Otherwise, maybe this movie won't be so bad. Then again, these clips are pretty short, and far from a representation of the film as a whole.

If the kids attend Robert McGowan Elementary School it can't be all bad. What fraction of the viewing audience will get that reference?

A bit worried about that contraption that lifts Pete. It seems a little too... well, steampunk for the Rascals.

More clips:
Not going to lie, I did get a chuckle out of the line "Maybe it's Alfalfa" during the cake sequence.

The movie is now available on iTunes. From what I've heard, there's a scene in the film showing the kids with iPods. Oh, dear.

There's also a soundtrack album.
One track: 'Spanky Lost The Money.' Uh-oh...

It'll probably be as entertaining as the 2012 Three Stooges movie.

Well, they did get Bug Hall to do a cameo. So, that technically zaps one of my complaints...
Still... Look, I don't want to keep bagging on this thing. One of the more obnoxious things I've run across lately is a Youtube rant by some fanboy type complaining about the film even though he hasn't seen it and has no intention of doing so. He's just outraged they made it, not for any real reason but because he considers it a 'dumb idea.'
But it's not FOR me. One of the things that's a bit painful (and points toward an intention of working this into a franchise) is the kids. In the first movie, they made some attempt to cast kids who looked like the original Rascals and wrote them close to the old versions. For example, Travis Tedford was essentially playing George MacFarland playing Spanky. The new version, not only does Jet Jurgensmeyer look NOTHING like George (or Travis Tedford, for that matter) but the character feels like a photocopy of a photocopy. It's the same with all the kids. It's like they hired someone to watch the old shorts, and write a brief synopsis of each character for a screenwriter, director, etc. who were completely unfamiliar with the Rascals and couldn't be bothered to acquaint themselves with them.
