I don’t know if anyone saw, but someone claiming to be Harry’s son-in-law replied to the infamous Harry blog post. I’m willing to bet they’re the real deal. It would seem he was simply a recluse around strangers. www.catsafterme.com/blog/archives/2098

Harry reverted back to his real name of Sherman Boner in his teens, before he joined the navy. He continued to live under that name for the remainder of his life. The author of the sea fishing books used the name "Harry Spear." Why would Harry Sherman Boner do that? The fisherman author was from Tampa, Florida and he was born in 1950, 29 years after Harry of Our Gang. He's not the same person.
If we accept that Harry Sherman Boner, the very private man, was the adult version of the Our Gang actor then his reasons for his anonymity died with him. He may well have told his wife what his reasons were but she is now also dead and if she knew his reasons she never disclosed them. It seems virtually certain that Harry's real reasons for his behaviour will now never be known, as there's nobody left to disclose them. Anything else I think is pure speculation, guesswork or invention.

It would appear that *both* Harrys were, coincidentally, avid fishermen. If you look at the original post, Brad even mentions finding fishing paraphernalia in Harry’s garage. I doubt there’s anything more to it than the man liked his privacy. I’m like that, and know plenty of people like that. It’s just how certain people are. But if anyone finds the story fishy (yes, yes, pun shamelessly intended), the next best step would be to do a family tree search and pinpoint if Harry had kids, and who they married. Me? I think this Gael Filgate is on the up and up.

Re: Scotty Beckett.
If I understand correctly, an attempt at a biography stalled because many of the people who knew him personally were reluctant to talk about him. According to rumor, he could be quite violent and abusive at times and his family just found the memories too painful to dredge up. One story I remember had him pushing his pregnant wife out of a speeding car on a busy freeway during an argument.

Re: Kendall McComas, AKA Breezy Brisbaine.
I have a thread somewhere on this site about my curiosity over his odd story. He was apparently very small for his age and was in or near his teens when he joined the Gang. Before that, he'd done a lot of vaudeville and played in the Mickey McGuire series.
I have a suspicion Hal Roach didn't realize how old Kendall was when he signed him to the Gang and upon finding out, started to ease him out of the series.
