Does anyone know who has a copy of "School Begins" ? There supposedly is a copy out there somewhere although the picture quality is described as "poor" I'd give a goodly sum to have a copy of this film even if the picture quality is poor! If anyone can help me with this search, please reply to jaalengip !!

The Library of Congress might have a copy, but that's just my guess.

Does the Library of Congress make dvd copies of movies for buffs/fans like us?
If so, what is the proper procedure for contacting them?
Is there a Library of Congress search engine link available, to see what movies they have & which movies are available to get copies of?

I don't know if the Library of Congress would provide that service or not. But you have inspired me to try to find out, Chubby ! If and when I learn more, I'll report back !!

To Chubby: I was informed by a gentleman who used to work at the Library of Congress that the Hal Roach Nitrates are no longer kept at the Library of Congress. He said they are now in the possession of the UCLA Film and Television Archives in Hollywood.

From Jim Harwood who used to work there: The Library does occasionally loan out their prints to archives and theatres that they have confidence with. It is very difficult to get their prints. They are now based out of their new facility in Culpeper, VA. The Roach nitrate is no longer there, though the preservation masters and prints that were made by the Library still are. The nitrate was moved to California back in the 1990's by the Roach rights holder RHI, Inc. The nitrate is currently housed at UCLA Film and TV Archives. They too have been making new preservation masters and prints on certain titles. You would likely have an easier time (though not THAT easy) getting film from them vs. the Library of Congress.

Thanks for your help OPT. I still haven't been able to find prints of (Old Wallop, School Begins, Your Own Backyard, Fair & Muddy). But you never know what might turn up in the future. These movies do exist somewhere. But where?
