Nicely done! I could do without the MGM-era stuff, but that's just my personal prejudice.
You've done a fine job of picking clips. I hope you'll be able to complete this project at some point.

Life has a way of doing that when you least expect. I hope everything works out well for you!
Fantastic job with the trailer you've assembled! Hope you're able to continue your project and see it to completion, at some point, as I know it will be great!!
CHEERS!

That was excellent! With my aging eyes I appreciated part of it more played at one-quarter speed. If I could add a couple seconds to this they would be from One Wild Ride and the start of the race in Derby Day. Look forward to seeing the completed project.

Very good!
Understand why the MGM stuff is there; like it or not, it's part of the history.
Hope you'll be able to manage something.

Thanks for the kind comments.
Part of the inclusion of MGM clips did have to do with "it's part of history." And I at least wanted to work Froggy into that montage of individual Rascals. Plus, I had planned to cover the Metro era in the doc anyway.
That said, another factor at play was the lack of good quality silent era clips...
Other assorted thoughts...
At the end of the trailer, you'll hear a bit of the cover of "Good Old Days" that was used in King World's "Rascal Dazzle" compilation. Originally, the plan was to have it take up the entire trailer. But I was always amused at hearing classical music underscoring comedic clips. Once I heard "Can Can" again after many years separated from junior high orchestra, I had a pretty good vision of how everything would play out. The basic idea was to start out simple and then build into sheer chaos.
"The Gang - Nothing to do - And the whole neighborhood to do it in" is a title card H.M. Walker wrote for the short "Baby Clothes." I always felt that it was an accurate description.
The 'high sign' clip wasn't added until fairly late into editing. Prior to that, I had no idea what to open on.
Johnny Arthur's line was originally going to cut to a shot of the Gang arriving at Darla's house - either from "Mail and Female" or "Feed 'Em and Weep." Neither of them looked good.
"My friends call me Spanky" - a line from "General Spanky" that I'm extremely grateful exists. I mirrored the image to match the view point of Billie Van Every's (the receptionist from "Mike Fright").
The montage of Gangsters may be my favorite part of this. It dates back to when I was planning to use the "Rascal Dazzle" theme. I was pretty committed to who all I wanted to include. Throwing in a two-shot of Butch and Woim just made sense to me. Once it was nearing completion, I had room for one more kid. For some reason, I said, "It has to be Brisbane." Ending it on Farina getting run over by the train in "The Sun Down Limited" was an early idea.
The speed of scenes was a combination of factors. Fast moving clips compliment the breakneck pace I was going for. But in certain spots, I needed the footage to match the music perfectly. A lot of trial and error went on to pull that off.
A shot of the boys doing their "songs of long ago" routine in "Melodies Old and New" was another early idea, but I couldn't figure out why I wanted it. In fact, I still can't figure that out.
Baby Spanky throwing the money out of the window... I shamelessly admit that was included because of its meme status.
The kids running out of the graveyard in "Spook-Spoofing" is probably my second favorite edit in this trailer. Early on it, was going to take up those last few notes of "Can Can". Throwing in three more shots didn't cross my mind until later. I'm glad I moved the clip back.
Dickie's "Come on, let's get going" line was originally going to be something else. In "Hi'-Neighbor!", Wally Albright tells Spanky, "Let's go get the gang!" My first choice, but I felt the audio wasn't clear enough.
"The Pigskin Palooka" clip at the very end is the only one I could find with both Buckwheat and Porky saying, "otay" (even though it's more of an "okay" here). The inclusion was partially because I keep trying to dispel the claim that Buckwheat never uttered the phrase (see "Pay As You Exit"). While the "Pigskin" moment isn't a perfect "otay," I figure it serves its purpose. Plus, it makes for a nice ending.
