Something I just noticed recently which also helps explain the problems with the MGM shorts: If you pay close attention, you'll notice the Rascals have traditionally been very, VERY young kids, generally single digit aged, with only a handful of ten-to-twelve-year-olds who were often cast as bullies to the smaller kids. When the series moved to MGM, the Gang was suddenly mostly bigger kids, ten to twelve being the norm instead of the exception. This is perhaps understandable because older kids are obviously easier to work with than younger kids, but it takes away a lot of the series' unique charm.

To make things even more awkward, the older Rascals are wearing pretty much the same clothes from the end of the Roach era - or maybe not. Either way, the clothes are way too small.

I must protest this horrifying notion that many men may actually enjoy looking at women's sweater-puppies. In fact there were a number of guys at the (Greenwich Village, cough cough) college I attended who were demonstrably UNinterested in women's firm, pouting chestal appendages. Guys like me, who did derive pleasure from proud pink-nosed female twins, had to skulk about in shame, by God. In fact Janet seems not to have been doin' much Burstin' at all when a fan dug her up some years later. Imagine being waited on by her at Denny's: www.catsafterme.com/blog/archives/2460As for Dorothy, dress or no, I'm sure she was decidedly in the eye-candy latitudes for many decades As Grand Sheik of the Chicago Bacon Grabbers, I actually met Dorothy on a number of occasions. Personally, although she was very nice, she didn't "turn me on," but she was an old lady by then.

I just read that Janet Burston article again and had to smile at all the comments. Brad's article about meeting one of the Our Gang kids seems to have triggered a family reunion and helped fill in the blanks for some grandkids who were very happy to know a little more about her. I think that's awesome.

a 1930s boy with a crush on Dorothy DeBorba:
"In 90 years, she'll be either dead or a little old lady i wouldn't fancy one little bit!"

Leslie Nielsen is probably the funniest guy ever from Saskatchewan. (Of course, he may also be the ONLY guy ever from that famously flat province**):
** I know about Tommy Douglas. But his son-in-law Donald Sutherland, who was indeed once funny, was born in New Brunswick.

I am blown away by the depth and breadth of Rascal knowledge of those posting here. As for the clip of Burston, she clearly was the poor man's Shirley Temple, despite the Strahan-like tooth gap. I see she was Canadian, so tooth gaps are second nature up there, given that hockey is the national religion. But this is of course light-years away from Rascaldom. I'm not even going to go there regarding the postulated second nature of Canadian tooth gaps.
However, as familiar as I was with Janet Burston's alleged Canadian birth growing up in Southern Ontario, that has since been refuted. On Dave Lord Heath's Another Nice Mess Website, Janet Burston's place of birth is currently listed as Oakland California, United States Of America. Who am I to argue that? Besides, ain't it bad enough that we've got Justin Bieber, who has apparently challenged Tom Cruise to a wrestling match, LOL? You just can't make this stuff up!
CHEERS!

Canuck 1, Yank 0. Great call there, eh? Most of my Canadian friends grew up on the late Ernie Coombs and his tickle trunk, but how could anyone watch that stuff when Rascals were available (??) up there?
