In the past particularly many newspapers carried cartoon strips and also single cartoon panels. In 1922 a newspaper cartoon called Out Our Way was born. Initially it was a single panel cartoon published each day of the week. Eventually although the single panel format continued to be published on weekdays a comic strip version was produced on Sundays. The single panels often featured recurring characters such as Worry Wart and the strips followed the same example, frequently featuring a family called The Willets, who had a late teens flapper daughter and a boy aged around twelve, who were continually at odds with each other. I really like the cartoons as they're real window into a vanished way of life and also a glimpse of what life was like in small town and rural America, back in the days when brand new Our Gang shorts were being shown on the local cinema.
