It is depressing to see a whole week go by with no new posts. I wonder if I can do anything about it. Should I try to write more fanfic as about 10-episode serials? Amazingly, "The Longest Episode Never Made" still gets views; maybe I could write the aftermath of that, where the gang is filmed starring as themselves. Another idea is "Seeing Stuff": three years after "Seeing Things," Farina tries eating meat again, and has a much longer, crazier, dream with a more unexpected ending when he wakes up. Or "Warped Feathers," where the Gang does not get the upper hand against the outlaws and is held prisoner for some time.
I never made a poll before, so I want to see if I can get one to work. Responses should be anonymous unless you have other suggestions to offer. If there are some responses, I might act on them.

Yes, it is rather depressing. Because of the low activity, I generally do more of my 'Our Gang' fandom stuff in the Facebook group "Our Group: Fans of the ORIGINAL Little Rascals (Our Gang)" these days. Not to discredit this forum, but it's a nice community. Betsy McFarland (Spanky's daughter) and a couple of Alfalfa's relatives have posted occasionally, as has Richard Bann, among others. Give it a looksee if you're interested. www.facebook.com/groups/20679308809/

The Great Film Discussion is my favorite thread that I always go back to.

I sent a request to the Facebook group but they did not accept me. I do not know why.

Well, to be honest, you're not missing a whole lot. Some good stuff, but it is mostly people posting old publicity stills and people reciting lines associated with it. In general there's a lot more quality discussion on this board. Plus, I'm a little irritated at the admin (which is probably a fake name and uses Diana Rigg as a profile pic), because he/she deleted my thread a few weeks ago where I posted a link to the Jack Dempsey/John Lester Johnson article from Ebony magazine.
Your mileage may vary.

I agree with you. There are many good topics here. I had never watched any short of them, other than 1994 and 2014, I started to give thanks because I really like Laurel & Hardy and I found this forum on the internet 2 years ago. I started to watch Our Gang and I did not stop. Now all I need is to watch the shorts done by MGM era.

Rejuvenating? Well, there's this magic lamp I found in the bushes...

Unfortunately, most message boards seem to be in a similar state.

I'm still relatively new to the Rascals but i'm always looking to learn more. Darla Hood would have been 86 this year. But Baby Peggy (Peggy-Jean Montgomery/Diana Serra Cary) is still with us so Darla might have been too.

My vote was for 'Other' because I think that the only way to encourage new people to join a board is for it to be active. The only way that it can be active is if existing members actually post new stuff. Whether that's by starting new threads or by adding posts to existing threads or even by rejuvenating older almost forgotten threads it doesn't matter so long as it's new activity of some description. Activity encourages more activity just as lack of activity, from existing members, discourages anyone new from joining and contributing. If visitors keep seeing new content it encourages then to return and perhaps even to join and post things themselves. Likewise if they see the same old threads, laying dormant for month after month, how is that ever supposed to encourage them to want to join? Join and do what? People who do like to post things also like to read responses to their posts, if they don't get any then it's understandable if they think, 'why should I bother posting at all if no one else is doing it?'

Thank you for your comments. I'll give it a try. One concern is that I want my posts to maintain some level of quality. It's become very hard not to repeat things on the longest current threads. I liked the quote game, but all too often I quote comes up that is so obscure no one gets it for a year. I'll look up a few films that seem like likely candidates, and fail. Writing fanfic is sometimes fun, but it has become too much effort for too little reward. Again I feel that I would be repeating things or it would get too silly if I tried again. There was a nice trivia game for a while, but I ran out of good questions.
However, I have come up with an idea for a new thread about numbers. Let's see if that works.

Well, there are some fairly active Facebook groups which are dedicated to Our Gang, though they are closed/private groups. Maybe you can try asking them if they're interested? There's also a (very dead) subreddit or three, so maybe don't bother with those.
It's better than a spanking forum, that's for sure.

I don't know how many currently active members this forum still has but I've seen maybe 8 or 10 different names crop up over the last couple of days as having recently visited. If each of those, lets call it 10 active members, tried to make just five new posts per week, that would make a total of fifty new posts per week. Fifty new posts a week is enough to convince any visitor that the forum is alive and kicking.
I think that your point about repeating things is a very valid one, which probably happens on all forums that last for more than a couple of years. Most new forum members don't trawl through all of the older posts and threads so they inevitably ask questions which may already have been asked several times before, just as I did myself by asking about the best DVDs. However with the passage of time new information also comes along so even though the questions might be repetitive the answers don't always prove to be. For example I didn't know that General Spanky had been released on DVD, until somebody kindly told me so in answer to my question about DVDs.

I prefer Darla to a certain curly topped actress. The fact that Curly Top grew up to be a hard-right conservative only makes me cling to Darla even more.

Random update - I've sort of taken a break from the forum, partially because I'm working on a new Rascal website at the moment - not another message board, mind you, but something more along the lines of what this site originally was. It's quite time consuming, though. More of a thing I can only work on during the weekends.
