This picture should help to put things in perspective as far as age goes. I'm up front and the brother closest to me in age is directly behind me... The broken leg and split lip were both the result of roughhousing. He threw me down on a bed and I landed the wrong way which resulted in a broken leg for me when I was very young. Here I am in my cast... And then when I was 7 or 8 he picked me up and dropped me face first onto a Trouble game on the floor that had sharp plastic edges. I remember bleeding all over the place and being taken to the emergency room for stitches. I still have the scar on my lip. He suffered a severe injury when he was a boy though. He was climbing on top of the metal swingset in our backyard and he slipped and fell, and had his side ripped open by some metal bolts on the swingset. He just missed having some serious nerve damage. I know he has scars from that one. That was a really bad and scary incident in our family.

Here is another picture of that brother and me on the very same swingset that he was injured on. Behind us are my older sister and my oldest brother, the boy in the very first picture in this thread... Notice I'm glaring at him ;D

Oh, that top picture of the three of you is a really good one, and it demonstrates clearly the disparity in age. I wonder if at times, being that much bigger than you were but still a kid himself, your brother had a hard time not thinking of you almost as a toy. My younger sister had that mindset with my youngest sister for a while, and unintentionally hurt her several times because of it. Goodness, the story about your brother being injured on the swingset is a vivid reminder to my why I couldn't have made it as a real-life Gangster. I was always far too cautious for anything of the kind to happen to me. I never had a broken bone or any really serious cuts, never took any dangerous falls or inadvertently gambled with my life. If there was any doubt in my mind that the outcome of an activity would leave me completely safe, I simply didn't take the chance. I wasn't necessarily a timid creature, but taking risks wasn't a natural part of my makeup.

I don't remember specifically what I was glaring at him about that day but it could have been anything. We were brothers and we were always fighting. I got him good once by hitting him in the face with a snowball when I was older ;D Here is a peaceful moment with me and my brothers. We're watching TV in this one, and of course I'm the youngest one sitting on my oldest brother's lap...

The brother holding you looks a lot like a young Tom Cruise in that picture! I almost don't recognize you this time, but I do recognize the brother who's closest to you in age.

That's my profile shot ;D Looking back at my childhood pictures I'm amazed at how different I look at different ages. It's part of growing up I guess. Everything changes...and fast! Okay, here I am as a very little guy out in the backyard... I'm really glad my parents took these pictures.

Ah yes, part of your silent movie era, right? ;-)
Yes, without photographs to support the memories, some of them can wash away so easily with the natural flow of time, even the moments we want to and think we will hold on to the longest. It's nice to have an extensive collection of family photographs to reference. My family, too, has always taken and kept a good assortment of photos.

Here are a couple of more just to close out the night (the spirit of Alfalfa the bartender is here serving me drinks, and he's making them STRONG). Anyway, here I am as a little wiseguy at Christmas 1966 with a toy gun. I remember being yelled at by my father for pointing the gun at him while he was taking the picture, which is why I'm pointing it off to the side... And here I am with my buddy Sammy on the backyard swingset back in the early 1960's. We had such a great time together back in those days... P.S. - In this picture you can see the metal bolts sticking up on the top of the swingset, which injured my brother. I'm on the left, as you probably know.

In the background of the photo of you and your friend Sammy on the swings, is that the television tower in the background? The one you're looking up at in your avatar?
There isn't a single picture of myself on my computer and I don't have access to a working scanner, but I do have a nice old black-and-white shot of a cousin of mine back in 1960 or so, when he was about four or five years old. It kind of looks like an Our Gang publicity photo. I would upload it here, but the attachment button still isn't showing up for me in this thread.

The picture of me and Sammy was taken in the backyard, with other TV towers in the background. In my avatar pic I was standing in the front of the building, looking up at the big TV tower in the back of our property... I was too young to climb up the TV towers, but my brothers sure did. I have a lot of great memories from those days. Here I am hard at work inside the building... It was a very unusual experience spending my early childhood living at a TV station. The stories my brothers and I have...

I can imagine. It looks as if you were already a practicing carpenter at the age of...how old were you in that bottom picture, six maybe? I have farmer cousins who were driving a tractor on the roads ten years before they would have been eligible for a driver's permit, and I guess a kid from a family with their own television station would have his own areas of required early expertise. That must have been something.

Me at age 3: I'm not sure if I could be a little rascal. I was born about 70 years too late, haha.

Maybe you could have been in the 1994 movie! There is sort of a Darla vibe to the three-year-old you. :-)

I kind of resembled Darla when I was her age in the beginning (3/4). I don't have any pictures in my computer yet though.
