Today I was watching "The Tyra Banks Show" (hey, there was nothing else on at 4:00 pm!) and they showed a picture of little Buckwheat from "Our Gang!" They were talking about certain skin colors, and some lady was talking about very dark skin and she said, "Kind of like Buckwheat. Remember what he looked like?" And they showed a photo of Buckwheat (it was a picture from the MGM days because Froggy was standing next to him)! I know that this is random, but it made me think of this board! And, I know it's weird, but I get excited when a Rascal gets mentioned on televison, even if it's on the Tyra show.
So that got me to thinking... where else has the "Our Gang" franchise or kids been mentioned in pop culture. I know that Eddie Murphy has portrayed Buckwheat on SNL, and I read a while ago that there was a "Little Rascal" reference on "Family Guy." (Just curious, but what episode of FG is that?) And there was an E! True Hollywood Story about the "curse" of "Our Gang," which usually airs around Halloween each year. Can you think of any other "Our Gang" references in television shows, etc. Those are the only ones I can think of. Anyone else got any?

In one of the late-nite T&A type comedies (like "Attack of the 60-foot Centerfold"), part of the *plot dealt with some people that were making a movie.
At a certain point of the film, we see some snippets of the movie they made. One scene involved a cannibal made up to look somewhat remiscent of "Uncle George" chasing a man with the voiceover repeating "Yum-Yum! Eat 'em up!"
*Yes, there was one. Unfortunately, though, I don't recall exactly what movie it was.
There was a movie (on Nickeloden, I think), which had the unfortunate title "The Naked Brothers Band". The film was directed by Polly Draper, and starred her two sons. Mrs. Draper mentioned in an interview that the film was partially inspired by "The Little Rascals". Anyway, at one point in the film, the kids are seen watching "Bored of Education" on TV.

Thanks for the list, RJH. I got this from wikipedia:
Darla Hood is mentioned in the song "Purple Stain" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers with the lines: Knock on wood we all stay good 'Cause we all live in Hollywood With Dracula and Darla Hood Unspoken words were understood
A short sound clip of Darla, Spanky and Alfalfa from an episode of Our Gang can be heard at the beginning of the REO Speedwagon song "Tough Guys", from the album Hi Infidelity.

I know this is a little random to be bumping this back up again, but I was watching "Two and Half Men" the other day and Charlie Sheen's character kept referring to his nephew's new friend as "Alfalfa." It made me think of this topic!
