I don't think there was ever a treehouse in a Little Rascals short. They always used barns. There was a sign the camera clearly zoomed in in one of the shorts (Anniversary Trouble) that said "Ancient and Honery Order of Woodchucks". Maybe this could be the one?

Well, of course, it could also be famous, "The He-Man Woman Haters Club". haha. But I don't think there was an actual sign of that in any shorts.

Yea just like the 1994 movie. They acually had a clubhouse. Our gang just had the oath that they had to say that was all.

This question wracked my brain for about half an hour last night. The only thing I can think of is the scene near the beginning of "Hi-Neighbor" where one of the boys swings down from a treehouse. Or am I remembering that wrong? In any event, I think this is the sort of thing that happens with people who haven't watched the series since they were kids. Details from different shorts get mixed together. Like the recent post where somebody remembered Spanky and Alfalfa doing a Stymie line from "Free Wheeling."

ALL YOU WHO TREASURE THE LITTLE RASCALS BETTER PAUSE FOR A MOMENT, EVEN LATE IN THIS DAY, AND SAY A LITTLE THANK YOU TO HAL ROACH, WHO DIED AT A HUNDRED YEARS OF AGE, 15 YEARS AGO TODAY. IT WAS THIS AMAZING MAN, WHO AT AGE 30, THOUGHT UP THE OUR GANG COMEDY SERIES, LATER KNOWN AS THE LITTLE RASCALS. IF YOU SEE ANY OF THE OLDER FILMS YOU WILL SEE IT SAYS (IN THE OPENING CREDITS) SOMETHING LIKE : "OUR GANG COMEDY WITH HAL ROACH'S LITTLE RASCALS." ROACH OVERSAW THE OUR GANG GROUP UNTIL THE FILMS BEGAN TO BE MADE AT M-G-M IN 1938. I NEVER MET HIM, I WAS JUST A PERIPHERAL KID, AN "EXTRA," IN SEVEN FILMS, BUT I OWE A GREAT DEAL TO MR. ROACH. WITHOUT THE WEEKS OF WORK I RECEIVED AS A CHILD, SOMETIMES OUR FAMILY WOULD NOT HAVE EATEN. THERE WAS NO "WELFARE" IN THOSE DAYS! SO HERE'S TO YOU, HAL ROACH. YOU BROUGHT SO MUCH LAUGHTER AND JOY TO THE WORLD-STILL DO- AND YOU GAVE A LOT OF US HOLLYWOOD DEPRESSION-RAISED KIDS FOOD ON OUR TABLES! REST IN PEACE! LAURA JUNE KENNY

I CRIED THIS MORNING WHEN MY HUSBAND READ FROM THE OBITUARIES IN THE L.A. TIMES AND WE SAW THAT FRANK CAPRA JR. HAD DIED WEDNESDAY. HIS FATHER, THE GREAT DIRECTOR, HAD GIVEN ME MY SCREEN TEST, AND I HAD BEEN MANY TIMES IN THE CAPRA HOMES, AND PLAYED WITH FRANKIE, ESPECIALLY ON THE DAY OF THE FUNERAL OF HIS LITTLE BROTHER. I REMEMBER WELL GOING TO THEIR BEACH HOME AT MALIBU TO BE WITH HIM WHILE THE ADULTS WERE AWAY AT THE SERVICES. AT MY TALKS ON MY BOOK, I ALWAYS SHOW THE PICTURE OF FRANKIE AND HIS BROTHER JOHN THAT MRS. CAPRA INSCRIBED FOR ME. I HOPE THAT FRANK JR. WAS ABLE LAST SATURDAY NIGHT TO SEE HIS FATHER'S FAVORITE FILM, THE CHRISTMAS CLASSIC, "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE." AND THERE'S A HAL ROACH CONNECTION TO THAT FILM. WHEN THE GREAT DIRECTOR FRANK CAPRA GOT HIS START IN THE FILM BUSINESS, HE WORKED BRIEFLY AS A GAG-WRITER FOR HAL ROACH. I KNOW HE WAS ALWAYS GRATEFUL TO ROACH AND THAT IS WHY IN THE FILM, "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE," YOU'LL HEAR THE BANK OFFICIAL SAY, "I WANT TO GET TO ELMIRA TO SEE MY UNCLE." OF COURSE ELMIRA WAS HAL ROACH'S HOME TOWN, AND IN ESSENCE, THE SENIOR CAPRA WAS GIVING A TIP OF THE HAT TO HIS FORMER MENTOR AND BOSS. REST IN PEACE, MY FORMER PLAYMATE. BOTH YOU AND YOUR DAD HAVE MADE GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD OF FILM. AND EVEN IN THE MIDST OF MY PERSONAL SADNESS, I WANT TO WISH ALL THE LITTLE RASCAL FANS AROUND THE WORLD A PEACEFUL, JOYFUL CHRISTMAS AND A NEW YEAR BRIGHT WITH OPPORTUNITIES AND PEACE FOR ALL THE WORLD. Thanks to a member of this site, I was just able to get a glimpse of myself in a film shown on TCM called, "FIVE LITTLE PEPPERS IN TROUBLE." Rob let me know it was being shown this morning. It was the only film I was ever in that was filmed "on location," at a mansion in the Hollywood or Beverly Hills. I was in a scene of nursery school, altho' I was then nine going on ten, but I saw myself with my long curls, sitting at a table across the room from the main "action." And guess what, three other OUR GANGERS or LITTLE RASCALS were in the film too--a more grown up and very pretty Edith Fellows, Tommy "Butch" Bond, really giving it his all in the way of performance, and Shirley Jean Rickert as "Kiki," a friend to "Polly," Edith Fellows' part. As I told in my book, this was the only time I ever saw a real teacher on the set, but oh, do I remember well that beautiful mansion! Thanks, Rob for the heads-up! Laura June Kenny

HAVEN'T CHECKED IN FOR QUITE A WHILE, BUT WANTED LITTLE RASCALS FANS IN THE L.A. AREA TO KNOW THAT I WILL BE MAKING A SPEECH ABOUT "OLD HOLLYWOOD AND OLD LOS ANGELES' THIS COMING WEDNESDAY NIGHT, FEB. 13, (7 P.M.) AT THE VENICE PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR THE VENICE HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S QUARTERLY MEETING. LOVE TO SHARE MY STORY OF WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE AMONG "THE LITTLE RASCALS," AND WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN HOLLYWOOD AND L.A. IN THE 1930s AND 1940s. THIS MAY BE MY LAST PUBLIC APPEARANCE AS I HAVE MOVED TO ALTADENA AND AM DEVOTING MYSELF TO WORKING IN HOSPICE AND WRITING FOR OUR WEB SITE ON END-OF-LIFE ISSUES. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE ALSO QUITE INVOLVED WITH THE ALTADENA COMMUNITY CHURCH. I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE LIFE I WAS ABLE TO LEAD, THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IN IT, AND FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF WRITING AND SPEAKING ABOUT IT. AND I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE, HUNDREDS OF THEM, THAT I HAVE MET WHILE PROMOTING MY BOOK ON BOTH COASTS AND IN CANADA. FANS OF THE RASCALS AND BOOK LOVERS ARE NEAT FOLKS WHEREVER YOU MEET THEM. SPECIAL THANKS TO MARK FOR PROVIDING THIS FANTASTIC SITE WHERE SO MUCH CAN BE SHARED TO KEEP ALIVE REALLY GOOD AND REALLY AGELESS ENTERTAINMENT. LONG LIVE "THE LITTLE RASCALS" AND ALL THEIR DEVOTED FANS! LAURA JUNE KENNY

Just got back from a Sons of the Desert tent meeting--the one I belong to, called the Early-to- Bed tent--and the feature film with Laurel and Hardy was "The Bohemian Girl." Guess who was featured as first, the daughter of a Count, then the kidnapped daughter of Oliver Hardy? It was adorable Darla Hood, cute and blonde and very young. If you ever get a chance to see this film, Darla will charm you. She really acted very well for one so young! Laura June Kenny

A WEEK AGO ON TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES, WE SAW BETTE DAVIS IN "JEZEBEL." THOUGHT I SAW STYMIE BEARD, MINUS HIS DERBY, WITH A TINY ROLL IN THE CAST, AND SURE ENOUGH WHEN THE CREDTS CAME ON THERE WAS HIS NAME. WHEREVER YOU ARE, HOPING SPRING IS COMING YOUR WAY--FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LIVE IN THE EAST, I BET THERE WAS PLENTY OF SNOW ON HAL ROACH'S GRAVE IN ELMIRA, NEW YORK, LONG WINTER BACK THERE. LAURA JUNE

Haven't checked in for a long time, but cause for celebration! Yesterday was the 77th birthday of this old Little Rascals cast member, and I have a lot to look forward to in the year ahead--not planning on an obituary just yet. Summer will bring a trip to New York and getting to visit the home my foster-parents owned in the 1000 Islands (pg. 41 in my book), fall will include two cruises during which I hope to talk about my having been on the set of the Our Gang movies of the thirties, and next winter a book-talk at my own Altadena Library. Life is good, and I am very grateful for the gift of this long and interesting life of mine. Have a great summer, everyone. Relax and enjoy each day! Laura June Kenny

LAST NIGHT WENT TO OUR LAUREL AND HARDY FAN CLUB MEETING--SONS OF THE DESERT--AND GOT TO SEE AN OLD PICTURE(1930) WITH CAMEO PERFORMANCE OF THE STARS OF THE DAY. THERE WAS ONE BRIEF SCENE OF THE "OUR GANG" SITTING ON FRONT STEPS AND EATING ICE CREAM CONES, BEING CHASED AWAY BY A MAID. THE OLD MOVIE WAS TO BENEFIT A T.B. SANITARIUM IN SARANAC LAKE, N.Y., AND I THINK THE NAME OF IT WAS "STOLEN JOOLS." I THINK IT'S A RARE FILM AND THE SCENE OF THE RASCALS WENT SO FAST YOU COULD HARDLY NAME THEM ALL. LAURA JUNE

"The Stolen Jools" is a very common film.

Hello, Rascal Fans: My 87-yr.old husband and I have moved to a very small apartment, so I am downsizing a lot of movie memorabilia, especially what I used in the writing of my book. Some things I am giving to museums, special collections, etc. but I have asked my family if they want all the Little Rascals memorabilia and they do not. So if you look at the Trade and Sell portion of this web site, you'll see what I am offering for sale. I am giving fans at this site the first shot to purchase, before I try on Craigslist or E-Bay. We are planning trips this year while my husband can still travel, so there may be a couple periods of several weeks when I may not repond quickly, but I will try to do so as soon as I get back to my computer. My son was over and we have just put the glossies in j-peg format, so that people can see them and then ask me to e-mail a j-peg of any particular photo. They are sepia in color which was the usual form of glossies during the 1930s. They are (1) a crowd shot of "Party Fever," and three from "Our Gang Follies of 1938:" (2) Porky on park bench waiting for the Love-bug; (3) the four little sailors (minus Alfalfa) and the four hula girls; and (4) the ending scene from "Follies" where whole ensemble is singing farewell to audience.
