Are there still lots of Charles Dickens fans out there?? Well, I am one. I've read all his novels except only an abridged version of OLIVER TWIST I want to read them again and again, But it DOES TAKE TIME!! My favorite Dickens novel is BLEAK HOUSE. How many know that one of its sub-plots is considered to be one of the first real detective stories in British Literature?? That is: "Who murdered the lawyer Tulkinghorn? It seems that just about everyone who had come in contact with him had ample motive!! But I was surprised by Dicken's answer!! Anyone else with favorite Dickens characters, scenes, etc.? A favorite trivia of mine is the inclusion of Diogenes the dog as a character in DOMBEY AND SON (the story behind it) Will be interested in any responses.

Would anyone know if any company ever made a movie of BARNABY RUDGE? I believe I've seen movies listed for all other titles by Charles Dickens, and I have several on DVD. If BARNABY RUDGE has been skipped over by all movie companies, it seems a shame since it is a great story!!

If BARNABY RUDGE has been skipped over by all movie companies, it seems a shame since it is a great story!! It was made as a silent movie in 1911 and again 1915. It was also made as a thirteen part TV series by the BBC in 1960. The BBC version is available on DVD. Personally I can't stand Charles Dickens as a writer. Being forced to read his dry as dust writing style as a schoolboy almost put me off reading for life. His stories might have been okay but the way that he wrote them robbed them of any vibrancy and life. 'Why use a sentence to describe something when you can use three pages' seemed to have been his axiom.
