What I mean by a, SET of Rascals.
A set cast of rascals within a particular story.
Jackie Cooper often starred with Chubby.
Alfalfa starred with Darla.
Spanky is the ONLY rascals to star with Wheezer and Froggy.
My favourite SET is the ones who starred with, Wally. No Cooper. No Alfalfa.

Another set of rascals, I like is, Alfalfa, Porky, and Buckwheat, without Spanky. I think there were four episodes of those. The last three of the Little Rascals episodes and the first episode of the MGM Our Gang, were like that.

Yeah, all the different CASTS over the years had their own certain charms and qualities.
I particulalry liked the older cast consisting of Chubby, Jackie, Joe, Farina, and Mary.

I agree with heyyouflatfoot! 1929-1931. My second favorite set of kids is the 32-33 season lineup: Dickie, Stymie, Lil Spanky, Wheezer, etc.

The original line up that included Jack Davis is probably my favourite. I also like the line up that included Johnny Downs, Bonedust, J. R. Smith, Scooter etc. I liked the late silents line up and I liked the Spanky-less early MGM line up too. Oh and of course I absolutely adored the final line up. Okay I lied about that part.

My avatar gives a clue. For a set of five, Farina, Jackie Condon, Joe Cobb, Mickey Daniels, and Mary Kornman. For a set of six, add Ernie, and for seven, add Jack Davis. In another thread I picked 1923 as my favorite year, or maybe it was phrased as the year I would miss the most.
Now watch Buppster dig up that thread and add his favorite year to it.

I guess that I'm just a little predictable?

Yes, you did choose 1923 in the If you could only have 1 year of Our Gang which would it be? thread.

Mainly the Jackie [Cooper]-Chubby-Farina-Wheezer-Mary Ann group, though I'm also partial to Baby Spanky, Stymie and Dorothy.

My favorite lineup is from 1932: Baby Spanky, Stymie, Breezy, Dorthy, Wheezer, Sherwood, and Dickie. This is mostly because this year had 3 of my favorite episodes: Readin' and Writin, Spanky, and Birthday Blues.
I find that this lineup of Our Gang was a bit of a transitional era. Jackie Cooper had left and in trying to find a new leader for the gang, they tried to replace him with Kendall McComas. However, as it's been discussed on here, it seems like he just didn't click with audiences, which might have partly had to do with him actually being 15-16 and being noticeably more mature than the others. What I find interesting is that even though Readin' and Writin', Free Eats, Spanky, Choo-Choo!, and The Pooch show him as still being the "leader" of the gang, he kind of fades into the background and then practically disappears in Birthday Blues.
I would say that during this era, Stymie and Spanky (even at that age) were the leaders of the gang up until that role was taken over by Dickie in Free Wheeling.

I think part of the problem with Breezy wasn't just his age but was also his New York aggressive style of humour, which was at odds with more affable and relaxed west coast attitudes of the rest of the cast. He gave it a go but in my opinion he was simply miscast, he wasn't right for that particular series.

That's true, he did have that smart attitude which was okay for "Readin' and Writing," but wouldn't have worked for other roles like "Birthday Blues." I couldn't imagine him taking on such a sentimental role! It's probably best that Dickie took over at that point.
