"Pie Eatin' Champeens" is the same title in the Kansas City Post article seen further up in this same thread. Allegedly, the folks at the Roach studio provided the script for some of these local projects. Interesting. Any idea what the story behind "The Our Gang Band" was? I suppose it could have been just a case of using the OG name as either a tribute or a way to grab attention. After all, the trailer never claims that they are the real Gang.

I've never heard of the Our Gang Band outside of that particular item. One would hope that they couldn't use the "Our Gang" name without permission, but you never know.

And eventually, in 1968, a band called Spanky & Our Gang would have a big hit song "Like To Get To Know You". They were not Our Gang wannabes. Spanky was a female in the band, and her last name is virtually the same as the real life actor, only the "d" on the end was an "e", making her Spanky MacFarlane. I'm surprised Hal Roach never filed a lawsuit against the band. It is uncertain if Spanky MacFarlane is still alive or dead.

Elaine McFarlane seemed to be very alive in 2012, and celebrated her 70th birthday, but I'm not sure, beyond that. Apparently, she garnered the nickname because she also bore a physical resemblance to George McFarland-- if I remember correctly.

Obviously not the real 'Our Gang', but a local imitation. Interesting from an historical standpoint, especially in hitting home the enormous popularity of Hal Roach's Rascals in their heyday! They were clearly modeled after the late 1920s silent era casting, although it appears the locals couldn't find an equivalent for Jean Darling. The one kid looks like a ringer for Farina in the one shot that he's holding up the cake, to my eyes, at least! The captioning was clearly NOT a Beanie Walker creation. CHEERS!

Wow, who knew Farina was actually played by twins who were apparently just as gender-confused as the character was? www.musicals101.com/awbio2.htmBy the way, I have a confession to make: I was in "Our Gang" way way back in 1919. Boy, those were the days - Alphalpha, Darla, Oatmeal, Fatty, Sleazeball, and of course our dog Woof-Woof. I was the tag-a-long kid with the beanie. Originally, Oatmeal was played by Jackie Coogan in blackface. But then one day our director Max Sterling found a black kid wandering around outside the studio and hired him. Alphalpha was such a riot! Always entertaining when the cameras were off. He later became mayor of Salt Lake City. Darla was a sweetheart. It's a shame she died so young. Yep, swallowed by a lion while acting in a jungle picture. My favorite moment with the Gang was when we had a big ol pie fight in the haunted house! Good times!

the Kansas City operation was a complete scam, Roach Studios did not send film crews out of the LA area to film and audition new kids, many of the imposters said they filmed their shorts on the east coast, Roach had no east coast operation

He'd sold it to MGM, which is why the syndicated shorts were re-titled 'The Little Rascals.' As for Spanky, I'm not sure how he felt but I think I heard rumors he was not terribly pleased by the 'homage.'
