It sounds like a replica Our Gang. I wonder if these people ever had legal clearence to do this. These kids are nowhere near as charming as the real thing.

I always wanted to buy old (and more recent) newspaper articles on Our Gang to post on this site, but they don't come around often. I'll never forget that one time a few years back when this site was new, someone had a fantastic SCRAPBOOK'S worth of a collection of old newspaper articles on Little Rascals, and I tried SO hard to win that auction and watched it til the very end. People kept bidding and bidding and bidding until the price got too high for what I could afford. I deserved it more than anyone! ^me........^whoever won that auction. Haha.

You can view tons of old papers at www.newspaperarchive.com. You have to pay to view them, but it isn't too bad. You can download them as PDF files. It wouldn't hurt to join for a month, download a ton of stuff, then cancel. I found a lot of interesting stuff.

Had to pull this thread up so I can discuss a Rascal-related incident.
Some time ago, I saw an article about a revival theater that was having an 'Our Gang Festival,' featuring episodes of the shorts, a costume contest, and as a special guest, the guy who played Wheezer.
Yes, I know. Since Wheezer died in World War Two, I was understandably VERY interested in meeting this fellow. I had no intention of confronting him, but I wanted to see how far he was going to take this.
To his credit, however, the old duffer never claimed he was the REAL Wheezer; he was simply one of the local Wheezers, one of a Gang of kids like the ones written about in that article. The claim was that Roach's people filmed local groups of kids and some were chosen to be in the "real" Gang. My own feeling is that it was a scam, but at least the old guy got a few minutes of fame out of it.
Oh, and the Festival was enjoyable. The costume contest was rather sad --Only three or four people dressed up, the saddest probably some boy whose mother had transformed him into an EXACT replica of Alfalfa, complete with a stuffed Pete The Pup he had to lug around under one arm-- but it was a treat to see the films on a movie screen with an audience, the way they were originally intended to be seen.

"Pie Eatin' Champeens" is the same title in the Kansas City Post article seen further up in this same thread. Allegedly, the folks at the Roach studio provided the script for some of these local projects.
