Used to happen all the time as a kid, but not so much now that I'm an older dood. But I just had a doozy of one. I went to see my podiatrist, who's a great guy, and we were talking about what we had wanted to be when we grew up. He told me he'd written a composition about wanting to be a garbage collector, for which he got called on the carpet by the school's principal. He explained to the principal that garbage collectors only worked two days a week. So I couldn't resist; I asked if he was a Little Rascals fan by any chance, and he said, without any real prompting, "BOY, DO THEY PICK UP THE NICKELS!!" Isn't that great? So I said, "high up grew the daffydil..." and he proceeded to recite the whole poem. The man is now one of my heroes. We did old Rascals riffs through the whole appointment... it was hilarious. How many people on EARTH can recite Sherwood's dopey poem from memory? Made my day, it did.

I can't say that I've found any real hardcore fans, but I do have one story that relates to the first time I really got into the Gang.
I was ten at the time, and had seen some of the shorts during their brief run on AMC a few years prior. My family and I were at a video store and a series of Our Gang DVDs from GoodTimes Home Video caught my eye.
After much debate, I decided to go ahead and use my allowance to buy a set. But I was so shy about it that I had my dad make the purchase for me. The guy behind the counter seemed impressed. "Wow, you guys like The Little Rascals?" I think my dad mentioned it was for me, and I kind of hid my face. You see, this was during a period where it wasn't considered "cool" for a kid to be watching anything that was in black-and-white. Silly, right?
My former dentist seemed to be a fan of both the Rascals and The Three Stooges. I remember him sending out a postcard to his customers that had a picture of Spanky, Alfalfa, and Darla in ALL ABOUT HASH on the back of it. I had never watched an MGM short at that point, so seeing the kids so much older was a bit of a shock.
In high school, I had a few classmates that mentioned having "every episode" of The Little Rascals at home. I never really brought up my interest to them because the vibe I got was more of a, "Oh, yeah, I'll watch if my parents have them on, but I'm not really a fan."

I still have fond memories of a study hall period I had in 8th grade (in Miss "Charmin'" Jarmon's) class, in which just about everyone got into the fun of humming, whistling, or even singing those classic Rascals background tunes. Wish the Beau Hunks could've seen it, assuming they were even alive yet. The Mickey-Daniels-Chasing-Stymie-At-The-Amusement-Park Suite was everyone's favorite; I don't recall offhand what Hatley/Shield named it.

That whole scene from FISH HOOKY is very much reminiscent of the silent comedy days. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wn3TMG-67A

LOLOL... I recorded that episode (audio) as a kid... at the end of Fliver Flops, my mind still makes the automatic segue into The Stymie Walking Box Overture, the name of which I cannot come up with, either. TYVM.
