Does anybody on these boards watch the game show Press Your Luck on Game Show Network or Buzzr? The show was hosted by the late Peter Tomarken (who died in a plane crash in 2006), was announced by Rod Roddy (later famous for announcing on The Price is Right until his death in 2003), and featured an infamous red monster of a robber known as the Whammy, which functions like a Bankrupt on Wheel of Fortune. The game show was an 80s cult classic, and focuses on gambling on a Big Board, by answering trivia questions to earn spins, which the players use to try to convert to money and prizes, and trying to avoid losing all of his or her money by hitting a Whammy.
Game Show Network has been airing episodes from late-1985 through May 1986, while Buzzr airs episodes from September 1983 premiere through early February 1984. Game Show Network has aired the episodes in between February 1984 and November 1985 from 2001 to 2009 *though a scattered small number of those episodes have aired on Buzzr regularly), and the final three months of the series has yet to air.
If anyone is a fan of Press Your Luck, what are some of your most favorite moments from the series?
My favorite moment of the series was when a contestant named Michael (not Larson), on his last show in March 1986 (Game Show Network aired it on the 4th of July, as I post this) and got three Whammies in Round 1. One more Whammy would mean he would be eliminated from the game. But in Round 2, he made history in many ways, centering around the three Whammies. He ended up having the biggest one-day total with three Whammies in his face, winning $33,380 in cash and prizes. Talk about a comeback. He retired undefeated since he had already reached the $50,000 limit.
The biggest winner in the history of the series, Michael Larson, won $110,237 in cash and prizes - in one episode, albeit split into two parts. But in his case, his total was done in an obsessive and greedy manner. His episodes were okay to watch once, but truly, I have no respect for him because of his hogging of the board and refusing to give others a turn until he got his obsession of six figures fulfilled.
