The rumor is that Dr. Richard Janeway, past dean of the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, was once a little rascal. I have been unable to verify this or to determine which character he played and when. Can anyone on this forum determine what character Richard Janeway played?

Hmmm... that name doesn't ring a bell. It's possible that he was in either a rip-off series or a small town 'home movie' imitation of the "Rascals." Both were quite popular back in the day.

Unrelated to the question, but were these small town 'Home Movie' imitations more popular in the silent era? I tend to suspect these might have waned with the advent of sound. Just imagine if these were still being made during the latter MGM era (Especially post Spanky), and one of those small town outfits managed to outdo these less than stellar 'Our Gang' entries? CHEERS!

I worked over 20 years with Dr. Janeway’s son Dr David Janeway. And yes Dr Richard Janeway was on The Little Rascals.

EDIT: Found it by Googling Richard Janeway, Little Rascals. Scroll down the results a bit until you find the link to a PDF. Since Richard was born in '33, that would imply that he would have more than likely been in the MGM shorts. I'll ask around and see if anyone recognizes his face from any of the films.

So, supposedly the child actor who played the kid who said "Remarkable" repeatedly in FORGOTTEN BABIES (1933) was Dr. Richard Janeway, according to the Quora posting by Randolph Matthews, MD.
According to the FORGOTTEN BABIES listing on Dave Lord Heath's Another Nice Mess website, the kid who says "Remarkable" is played by Dickie Hutchins, who I assume is/was Bobby "Wheezer" Hutchins' brother. Based on that, I'd say the Dr. Richard Janeway story is all wet, and very "Unremarkable" but that's just my opinion!

I didn’t see any reference to FORGOTTEN BABIES, but that was indeed Dickie Hutchins. And yep, he was Wheezer’s real-life brother. Richard Bann has seen a photo of them together, as I recall. The PDF file floating around, which includes interviews with Dr. Janeway, seems to imply that he was a little older during his time with the Gang (again, assuming any of this is true). If anything, he’d have been an extra because closest thing to the role described by Randolph Matthews is Gary Jasgur!

My gut says this is yet another 'Our Gang' alumni tall tale. It's simply too easy to claim he/she was an extra. As it happened this time around, the "extra" in question has been otherwise positively identified, as a sibling to one of the most popular (Not to mention, beloved!) 'Our Gang' members, no less!
CHEERS!

Janeway's date of birth doesn't seem to jibe with the age of the "remarkable" kid... so I'm taking Hutchins II at 9/5, odds dropping thanks to mtw and tbone.
