I'm a bit surprised there wasn't a topic for this, but I wanted to acknowledge the passing of Mickey Rooney. He was rumored to had tried out for "Our Gang," but didn't make the cut. I've always felt like he's had a connection to the "Gang." It seems like he lived a very long, happy life, and I appreciate the many roles he played.

To many Mickey Rooney will be remembered forever for his Mickey McGuire series or his Andy Hardy movies. Others no doubt will remember National Velvet or Boys Town but to me he'll always be Henry Dailey, horse trainer and friend to Kelly Reno's Alec Ramsey in The Black Stallion. Along with Cass Ole, who played The Black, Mickey & Kelly were made for the roles that they played, examples of absolute perfect casting. Requiescat in pace Joe Yule Jr.

I really liked Mickey Rooney in Boys Town, as a hard nosed little know it all snot, but he was even better in Men Of Boys Town, as the reformed bad boy who then had some great interplay, and met his match, with Darryl Hickman, who as wise cracking Flip was the same sort of short arsed wise guy as Mickey had been himself in the first movie.
