Tennis anyone?
Going back to Jonah Smith and his friends back at the top of the thread. Jonah was a product of Zounds Sounds in Dallas, Texas. A great school of rock for talented rock and roll rascals. Here's a little tour of the school that produced Jonah and his pals. Matt Musso appears at around 6:05 or thereabouts, a pal of Jonah's who has performed with him on many occasions.

Was Matt Musso ever an official part of Jonah Smith's band, or did he join them to play only as a freelance musician?

Matt was the drummer for Jonah's band Plowboy for awhile, but was eventually replaced by someone else. I don't know why. Here is a cool music video they must have made at the school with Matt on drums. They cut to concert footage that also shows Matt on drums...

And here they are playing live with Matt banging away on the drums and Jonah starting to go through the voice change...

And I'll also add...
Matt had his own band for awhile called "Wicked Lizard" where he played guitar and sang lead. I always thought he was a funny, entertaining kid. He could play a lot of instruments, so he has talent. Here he is back in 2009 as the frontman and lead singer of Wicked Lizard...

Matt Musso's voice immediately grabs one's attention. It's offbeat, but serves well to give the band a signature sound. I can see why he would have been their selection as lead vocalist.
Have you ever seen the Youtube offerings of Oleg Aleksandrov? He sings a wide variety of tunes, from pop music to folk songs to classics of the American crooners (Frank Sinatra in particular), and even opera. Though his Ukranian accent is always noticeable, his English is good. Oleg's vocal technique may not have been perfect in his early days on Youtube, but he has improved quite a bit in the past couple of years, and I believe he may still be shy of his tenth birthday.
Here is Oleg Aleksandrov performing Irving Berlin's White Christmas:

No, I had never heard of Oleg before, but he has a nice voice. I like this performance of an old classic...
Which led me to this version out of Australia...
What a wonderful world! So say the singing rascals around the world, and I believe them ;D

That's one of Oleg Aleksandrov's better early Youtube performances. His Ukranian accent comes through especially strong in it, but he maintains good vocal control throughout.
The Australian accent seems to be one that disappears easily while singing, as evident in that video of Straalen performing What a Wonderful World. I've noticed the same in other Australian artists, such as Savage Garden, AC/DC and Troy Sivan.
Speaking of Troy Sivan, I'm sure you've heard his matchless singing, but perhaps you haven't yet come across this lesser-known Youtube jewel of his, recorded when he was only nine years of age. His impeccable vocal form and the natural sweetness of his voice were already in bloom.

I know I was really tired this morning when I made that last post, but I'm nonetheless quite surprised I misspelled Troye Sivan's name. It jumped out at me immediately when I reread the post just now. Anyway, the typo bothered me, so I wanted to post this addendum to correct the error.

I had never heard of Troye before, but he did a nice job with "Ben" at that age. I also checked out some of his more recent videos and his voice matured very nicely. It's not the type of music that I normally listen to, but he's good.
Speaking of Australia, here is my favorite drumming rascal again, jamming with DJ Samrai...

As far as young singers go, my all-time favorite will always be Frankie Lymon who was popular as a young teenager back in the mid to late 1950's. He had a great singing voice and I listen to his music all the time when I'm in my car. Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers.

Sadly, he died of a heroin overdose at the age of 25. But his music lives on forever in my car...

Oh yes, I'm quite familiar with Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. He's in the Young Hollywood Hall of Fame, and Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers served as a model for other doo-wop groups that had their youngest member sing lead, including the renowned Kid Kyle roughly fifty years later. In some ways, Frankie Lymon was like an early version of Michael Jackson.
And with this post, it would appear I have been deified. Who knew? The pantheon expands just a little bit more...

I'm quite surprised you'd never heard of Troye Sivan. At the height of his singing powers, comparisons to even the legendary Billy Gilman abounded, and Troye Sivan also successfully branched out into acting. He appeared briefly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and had a starring role in Spud, a 2010 South African motion picture. If you haven't heard much of his music, I would recommend tracking down Troye Sivan's studio recording of Billy Gilman's There's a Hero on Youtube. That one is a real Wow experience. Here is a video of him singing it live. It's one of my favorites. I've come to readily recognize the distinctive sound of Jagger Alexander's drumming! It's no wonder he's one of the top drummers his age in all of Australia. His accent is so strong that I sometimes find it difficult to extricate what he's saying, but skillful drumming requires no such dialectic translation.

That was very beautifully sung. Amazing. I'll have to check out more of his videos, although that one will be tough to top. I definitely bookmarked that one.
And now for a little change of pace. All rascals grow up of course, and sometimes do things like this (I think these guys are a little crazy)...
And we're in a summer heatwave where I live, so here is one of my favorite summertime songs...

Here's one of my favorite summertime songs. Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and the rest of the gang back to making music together after more than a decade of hiatus, so even though there's no Marky Mark, it's all good.
Here's another favorite of mine from Troye Sivan, a live performance he gave in the lead role of Oliver Twist in a professional theater production of the play. It takes a couple of minutes to get to Troye's part of the song, but it's certainly worth the wait. That really was some cast they assembled for the production!
A few years ago someone was planning to get me a copy of Troye Sivan's debut CD for my birthday. It never arrived, though, and after six months of waiting, we recontacted them to ask about it. It turned out to be Troye's mother who handled the matter! She didn't know why we hadn't received the CD, but apologized for the delay and said she would send us another one as soon as possible. However, she did more than that! When I received Troye's CD, I found he had autographed it for me. "Hey, Happy birthday! Troye Sivan", he wrote. Needless to say, it is a treasured possession.

It's cool that Troye is fan friendly. After listening to him sing I may look for a copy of his CD. I'm a John Lennon fan from way back, so I enjoyed his performance of "Imagine"...
On another forum we were having fun posting amusement park ride videos, and I got a kick out of this one of a father and son on The Slingshot. Watch the kid's eyes almost pop out!
Good thing he didn't take any Castor Oil before going on that ride. ;D
