Whoa!
Just got back from work about 30 minutes ago - I'm going to take my sweet time in watchng these shorts. Gonna take the rest of the week while viewing them in chronological order.
But, I caught a bit of "Shivering Shakespeare" before I left for work - I can only hope that this is an annomaly. The transfer is good, but the film itself is VERY scratchy. the picture so unstable it borders on seasickness and the audio hurts my ears due to shrillness. This is one I'd not seen before on either the Blackhawk or Cabin Fever releases (only have 18 of the 21 CF tapes), so I can't really say whether it's better or worse than the CF version, but it's definitely disappointing quality-wise
Maybe I'm spoiled?

This is my e-mail sent to Genius Products ( info1@geniusproducts.com )
This e-mail concerns the newly released DVD set "The Little Rascals: The Complete Collection". In the 1990's RHI and Cabin Fever released a wonderful collection "The Little Rascals Remastered & Unedited" on laserdiscs of 84 Our Gang shorts. The material was remastered and unedited as advertised. The chapter points were accurate and the quality was excellent. These laserdiscs became the standard to which other Little Rascals releases were compared. It was announced that "The Little Rascals: The Complete Collection" was on its way remastered, restored, and uncut. Fans were ecstatic! Genius Products should be ashamed! The actual set "The Little Rascals: The Complete Collection" uses inferior Blackhawk prints without the original title cards for at least 13 of the shorts. Some dialogue has also been edited ( http://forum.dvdtalk.com/9033108-post64.html ). While it is very nice to have the new set in chronological order with the extra features, I believe that most fans would have much preferred it if all the masters used on the RHI/Cabin Fever laserdiscs had been used to make "The Little Rascals: The Complete Collection". Why were these masters not used? The present DVD set is not uncut without the original title cards and was not made from the best quality masters available to you! The right thing for Genius Products to do would be to issue replacement DVD sets to present DVD set owners that are truly uncut and use the RHI/Cabin Fever laserdisc masters. Such a set would sell many more copies and elevate Genius Products in the eyes of fans and customers.
Please read these forums to see what other fans are saying:

heustess, You said it all so good!! All you said to them is exactly pretty much what I had said. lets hope many more fans write them to say these same things so they KNOW we fans are not at all happy !
You know, I keep thinking more and more about putting the 4 volume Laserdisc set to DVD-R as like you say in your letter to the company, these laserdiscs are truly complete and uncut of each film from start to finish.
It really bothers me that they used Blackhawk prints, it just is so wrong of them to have used them!! They MUST have the same masters they used for the laserdisc set for the 13 films and, indeed this new DVD set is a lie saying the films are complete and uncut. They should have made it a point on the package to say "except for 13 of the films".
What a huge disapointment this new DVD set is.

Bob (ymymeatemup), If you had been a consultant on this DVD set, there would have been no issues. I doubt if there is anyone better qualified. Anyone visiting http://theluckycorner.com/ would realize that instantly.

Well, that's nice of you to say, Mack - thanks. Needless to say, nobody from that company contacted me, and I would presume that they're not familiar with my website, which is still sort of 'obscure.' Just for the record, the Cabin Fever print of "Bear Shooters" is also missing that little bit of footage, so Genius must have used their print. I personally never even noticed this discrepancy until it was mentioned on this board a few months ago. The replacement disc idea might be a problem since about half of the discs in the set would need to be replaced. Genius Products might not be able to afford doing this. They might, however, be able to fix the problem for future issues of the set. And perhaps they can make the corrected films available for download, providing passwords for anybody that has a proof of purchase.

No where local was carrying the new set, so I had to go across the mountain to Charlottesville, VA to get it at Best Buy. Walmart and Target aren't selling them around here.
I'm playing the DVDs right now. I'm enjoying it all. Forgetting the Blackhawk error and inaccurate printing ("the very first Our Gang silent shorts"...), it's nice seeing the shorts in chronological order. The menus are nice, the intros are great, and the bonus disc is the icing on the cake.
I never have seen the original opening titles for Spook Spoofing and the original captions, so that was interesting.
I'm happy with having the set. If they reissue a corrected set in the future, I'll buy that, too. And I hope they will.

What do you think of the packaging? I actually liked the "look" of the packaging. But once that cellophane comes off, it's really flimsy. The inner part is almost guaranteed to pull away from the outer shell if you don't take the care to hold it with 2 hands. It's not attached to the outer spine. It would have been nice to see a stronger, more secure package.

Agreed.
Overall, the quality is great (even "Shivering Shakespeare" balanced out as it played out - THAT was a treat, as I hadn't seen it since the early 1980's - and then on TV in its butchered form). So far, the Blackhawks are well above average and the CFs are crystal clear - "Teacher's Pet" breathtakingly so, as it's noticeably better than the Hallmark DVD.
Been watching 'em in chronological order (save for the silents). I'm on the last of the Miss Crabtree "trilogy" in "Love Business" right now - Dorothy: "Can't you hear the fleas in my whiskers?" - Mary: "Tastes like pa's dress suits smells!"
Up next, the incredibly touching "Little Daddy".

I hate to say "I knew it!" but the Blackhawk prints being used in this new set does not surprise me (Take a look at the second post from this thread on page one ). I think I'll hold out until we hear back from the people that put this out, I will be writing an email to them as well. In the meantime, I have the Cabin Fever VHS versions as well as a bootleg dvd collection of the same Cabin Fever versions that are of excellent quality!
For those of you who have purchased the new set, how do theses versions compare with the Hallmark/RHI re-releases of the Cabin Fever stuff on DVD a few years back? I have those too and they are the best quality I own albeit, incomplete, of course.

It looks like they're all brand new transfers - even the Blackhawks - but see my comments just above on the "Teacher's Pet" transfer on the set vs. the Hallmark transfer. Absolutely exceptional.....

I'm not bothered by it. Many of my box/season sets are book-like and fold open, like my Looney Tunes and South Park collection. Only difference I can think of is they all have an outer box to keep the set from flying open.

Add "Anniversary Troubles" and "Little Papa" to the list of Blackhawk prints on the DVDs.

And the former's picture, while clear and steady, looks like the flim was drug across a gravel floor - nice, thick black lines throughout. Clearly the most disappointing print so far, despite nice audio.....

Yeah, the Blackhawk print for Anniversary Troubles has always been one of the worst of all the Roach talkies. Of course, Genius products uses that as part of the "restored" set.

I'm sorry to hear this about the new DVD set. It was on my Christmas list. I have all my Cabin Fever videos - seems to be a more worthwhile endeavor to just transfer them all to DVD and make one's own set since the CF copies are really nice.
